    This is the best case for a British driveway

    Most of the cars on this site carry a three phase charger whose headline figure shrinks the moment it meets a domestic supply. The e-Rifter does not. Its standard charger is 7.4 kW on a single phase, which is exactly what a 32 amp home charge point delivers, so nothing is lost between the brochure and the driveway.

    Peugeot UK says so in its own words: "A full charge from a 7.4kW Wallbox will take 7.5 hours". The current brochure charging table is more precise again, printing "Single Phase Wallbox (7.4kW) - Type 2 Socket: 6h 43m" for the facelifted car.

    The trap runs the other way with this one

    Because the charger is single phase, it has an unusual weakness that three phase cars do not: a public post wired as three phase 16 amps gives it only one of those phases, which is 3.7 kW. On a 50 kWh pack that is sixteen hours. Owners meet this at older destination chargers and find it baffling until the reason clicks.

    An 11 kW three phase charger was offered as an option. At a house it would also give 7.4 kW, so it changes nothing on a driveway. Its value is at three phase public posts, where it would fix exactly the problem described above.

    Battery and range, with a documentation muddle

    Cars to 2024 have a 50 kWh pack with 46.3 kWh usable. The 2024 facelift moved to 52 kWh gross and 50 usable, although Peugeot kept marketing it as 50 kWh for a while.

    Range is where Peugeot own documents fall out with each other. The price list still says up to 172 miles, the website says 199, the newest brochure says 180 to 220, and EV Database models 214. The 172 figure looks like a pre facelift carry over. We would plan around roughly 180 miles in practice and treat the higher numbers as best case.

    Each figure is the pack size divided by the power actually drawn, with 13 per cent added for charging losses and the result rounded to the quarter hour. The range column assumes 3.5 miles per kWh rather than a summer best case. The two pack sizes cover cars before and after the 2024 facelift.

    Rapid charging is 100 kW, nought to eighty in half an hour, so a long trip is perfectly workable. But a van shaped car like this earns its keep on short local runs, and those are all done from the Type 2 lead overnight.

    Which length for an e-Rifter

    The inlet is on the nearside rear flank where a fuel filler would sit. The inlet is at the nearside rear, in the conventional filler position. Being on the kerb side is a small everyday advantage; being at the back means the length you need depends on whether you nose in or reverse.

    The standard body is 4.4 metres and the long wheelbase version 4.75. With a rear socket on a vehicle that size, ten metres is the safe default and five metres only works reversing in. Take a tape measure to the run, inlet to charge point, and add a couple of metres before choosing.

    How these cables are built

    The lead is an IEC 62196-2 design, CE marked, IP55 sealed against a British winter and rated from -30C to +50C.

    Three pin construction follows IEC 62752, CE marked, IP67 rated, usable from -30C to +60C. The manufacturer warrants it for two years, delivery in the UK is free and next working day, and returns run to 30 days.

    Peugeot e-Rifter charging cable questions

    Does the e-Rifter get its full charging speed at home?

    Yes. The standard charger is 7.4 kW single phase, so a 32A British home charge point supplies all of it. Peugeot quotes 6 hours 43 minutes for a full charge.

    Why does it charge slowly at some public chargers?

    A three phase 16 amp post gives a single phase car only one phase, which is 3.7 kW. It is the charge point, not a fault with the van.

    Where is the charge socket?

    Nearside rear flank, where you would expect the fuel filler.

    What length cable do I need?

    Ten metres for most driveways given the length of the vehicle and the rear socket. Five metres if you reverse in close to the charge point.
