    One of the three does not plug in at all

    Before anything else: the current 3008 HYBRID 136 and HYBRID 145 are 48 volt mild hybrids with no charging socket of any kind. Peugeot own UK price guide is unambiguous about it - the onboard charger row prints a dash, the charge time rows read "Self Charging", and the battery is 0.9 kWh with 0.432 kWh available. The consumer page says it plainly too: no need to plug in.

    So there are three 3008s. The mild hybrid takes no cable. The 2019 to 2023 plug-in hybrid does. The E-3008 electric car does. The rest of this page covers the two that charge.

    The plug-in hybrid is a 3.7 kW car in the UK

    This is where Peugeot differs from its sister brand and the difference costs money if you get it wrong. Peugeot UK wording is direct: a 3.7 kW single phase onboard charger is included as standard, with a full charge taking three hours forty-five minutes, while an optional 7.4 kW onboard charger is also available, taking one hour forty-five. The UK price list carries that as option code LZ02 at 350 pounds.

    The arithmetic confirms both: 13.2 kWh over 3.75 hours is 3.52 kW and over 1.75 hours is 7.54 kW. The car is the bottleneck, not the cable, so the extra current goes unused. So a 16A cable covers a standard car completely, and the 32A version is worth having only if the faster charger was ordered.

    Nothing on this car takes DC. There is no rapid socket to fall back on, so the Type 2 lead is not an accessory you might use, it is the only route electricity ever takes into the battery. Buy a used one without a cable in the boot and it is a petrol car until you do.

    The E-3008 is a 7.4 kW car, and Peugeot says so

    The electric E-3008 comes with an 11 kW three phase onboard charger as standard, and in the same press release Peugeot gives the case that actually applies here: at home using a typical 7.4 kW charger the battery can be charged from twenty to one hundred per cent in eight hours. That is 58.4 kWh over eight hours, or 7.30 kW, which is a 7.4 kW ceiling at 99 per cent of nameplate.

    Two battery sizes are offered, 73 kWh at 326 miles and a Long Range at 96.9 kWh and about 435 miles, both taking 160 kW on DC. Note that Peugeot publishes the USABLE capacity as its headline figure on this car and no gross figure at all, so 73 kWh is not comparable with a rival quoting a gross number.

    Each figure is the pack size divided by the power actually drawn, with 13 per cent added for charging losses and the result rounded to the quarter hour. Range added per hour assumes a year round 3.5 miles per kWh rather than a best case figure. Columns are the plug-in hybrid at 13.2 kWh and the E-3008 at 73 kWh usable. The Long Range E-3008 takes about a third longer than the second column.

    Four hours for the standard plug-in hybrid against eleven for the electric car, which is the difference between an evening and a night. Both cost a fraction of petrol per mile on an off peak tariff.

    Which length for a 3008

    Look to the nearside rear wing for the flap. It is the same spot a fuel filler occupies, on the pavement side of a UK car, and it makes reversing onto the drive the cheaper option in cable terms.

    The plug-in hybrid owner manual states it body-relatively, which is helpful: the charging flap is on the rear left-hand side of the vehicle. The E-3008 follows the same arrangement. On a 4.54 metre car ten metres is the default, five works reversed in beside a nearside charge point. Take a tape measure to the run, inlet to charge point, and add a couple of metres before choosing.

    Does a Peugeot 3008 Hybrid 136 need a charging cable?

    No. It is a 48 volt mild hybrid with no charging socket. Peugeot own price guide prints the onboard charger as a dash and the charge time as Self Charging.

    Is the 3008 plug-in hybrid 3.7 kW or 7.4 kW?

    3.7 kW as standard in the UK, with 7.4 kW a 350 pound factory option. A standard car takes three hours forty-five minutes to fill and an optioned one an hour forty-five.

    Can the plug-in hybrid rapid charge?

    No. It has no DC socket at all, confirmed three ways, so the Type 2 cable is the only way in.

    What does the E-3008 draw at home?

    7.4 kW. Peugeot publishes the figure itself: twenty to one hundred per cent in eight hours on a typical 7.4 kW charger. The 11 kW rating needs three phases.
