    One cable for the whole plug-in Transit family

    The vans differ more than the cable does. AC capability across the plug-in range runs from 11 kW on the Custom and Courier models, through 11.3 kW on the 68 kWh panel van, up to 22 kW on the 89 kWh Enhanced Range version introduced for 2025. All of them share one connector, Type 2.

    None of that matters much on a single phase feed, and a house or a small unit is almost always single phase: the whole family lands on 7.4 kW. The 32A single phase lead is therefore the yard cable. Three phase is worth buying only where the depot genuinely has it and the van is one of the 22 kW ones.

    Times below are computed from the pack size and the power drawn with 13 per cent allowed for charging losses. Columns are the 64 kWh Custom at up to 209 miles WLTP, the 68 kWh E-Transit at 196, and the 89 kWh Enhanced Range at 249. On a three phase supply the 22 kW van halves the middle column again. The range column is deliberately cautious, at 3.5 miles per kWh.

    Which length to buy for a van

    The inlet is in the nose, centre front, which is the easiest position there is to plug in and the one that most rewards a short cable. Nose the van at the charge point and 5 metres has slack to spare.

    Where vans need length is the yard rather than the van: reversing onto a loading bay, parking in a line where the post is two spaces along, or charging outside a house overnight. For those, 10 metres is the working choice and 15 metres suits a shared yard where the van does not always get the same spot.

    Ford E-Transit charging cable questions

    Does one cable fit every electric Transit?

    Yes. E-Transit, E-Transit Custom, E-Tourneo Custom and E-Transit Courier all use a Type 2 inlet, so a Type 2 to Type 2 cable fits them all. What differs is the onboard charger, from 11 kW up to 22 kW on the 2025 Enhanced Range van.

    Will a 22kW cable charge an E-Transit faster?

    Only where the supply is genuinely three phase and the van is one of the 22 kW models. On a single phase yard or house feed every plug-in Transit draws 7.4 kW, and the 32A single phase cable delivers all of it.

    How long does an E-Transit take to charge overnight?

    At 7.4 kW, a 68 kWh E-Transit takes about ten and a half hours from empty and the 89 kWh van about thirteen and a half. A depot charging from 20 per cent overnight will be full by morning on either.

    What length of cable suits a van?

    Five metres reaches easily because the inlet is in the nose. Ten is the practical fleet choice, because a van rarely parks in exactly the same spot twice, and fifteen suits a shared yard or a charge point at the far end of it.
