Charging your Puma Gen-E at home
A small battery and a healthy charger is a happy combination. The Gen-E carries about 46.8 kWh usable and accepts 11 kW on AC, so on a British home supply at 7.4 kW it goes from empty to full in about seven hours. Plug in at ten and it is done before the alarm.
The cable to buy is the 32A single phase Type 2. Sixteen amps halves the rate for no good reason on a car that can take double.
Which length to buy
The inlet is on the rear nearside wing, the kerb side and towards the back. That is the friendliest position for street charging, since the lead reaches the pavement side without crossing the car, and it is fine for a wall box on the house wall if you reverse in.
Nose in with the charger by the front door and the cable runs the length of the car, so 10 metres is the safer choice. Five works if the parking is predictable and the charge point is at the back of the drive.

Hours are worked from battery size against power drawn, plus a 13 per cent allowance for what is lost as heat, rounded to fifteen minutes. Range is up to 259 miles WLTP, so a full charge on a 7.4 kW supply is roughly that for the price of an overnight tariff. The miles column uses 3.5 miles per kWh, which holds up in winter as well as summer.
How these cables are built
The cable meets IEC 62196-2, carries the CE mark, is sealed to IP55 and is specified from -30C to +50C.

Which cable does a Ford Puma Gen-E use?
A Type 2 to Type 2 cable, and the 32A single phase version is the one to buy for home use. The car accepts 11 kW on AC, so it can use everything a 7.4 kW British wall box supplies.
How long does a Puma Gen-E take to charge?
About seven hours from empty on a 7.4 kW home charger. On a 16A cable it is closer to fourteen, which is the reason to take the 32A lead even though both physically fit.
Where is the Puma Gen-E charging socket?
On the rear nearside wing, the kerb side of the car. The Type 2 pins handle AC and the CCS pins underneath handle rapid charging, both behind the same flap.
Can I charge it from a normal plug socket?
Yes, with a three pin cable, at about 2.3 kW. That is roughly 60 miles added overnight on this battery, which makes it a usable backup for a night away rather than a daily routine.
