Charging your Focus Electric at home
The Focus Electric is the rare Type 1 car where the bigger cable is worth having. Its onboard charger accepts 6.6 kW, which is nearly double what most cars of its era managed, so a 16A lead at 3.7 kW leaves half of that capability unused.
Take the 32A Type 1 to Type 2 cable and the car draws its full 6.6 kW from a 7 kW home wall box. That is the difference between a five hour charge and a nine hour one on the 19.6 kWh car.

Those times come from dividing the pack by the delivered power and adding 13 per cent for losses, then rounding to the quarter hour. The columns are the 2013 to 2015 car at about 19.6 kWh usable and the later 33.5 kWh facelift. Miles per hour is worked at a conservative 3.5 miles per kWh.
Which length, and a word on the facelift
Ford put the inlet on the nearside front wing, behind the lit ring, and said at the time it chose the front left deliberately because it suits home charging. Nose in with a wall box on the house wall and 5 metres is generous. Reverse in and 10 metres is the safe choice.
One thing to check on a late car: the 2017 European facelift moved to a Type 2 inlet with CCS rapid charging. We could not verify from a UK source whether that version was sold new here, so if your Focus is a 2017 or 2018 car, count the pins on the inlet before ordering. Five pins means Type 1 and this page. Seven means you want the Type 2 cable instead.
How these cables are built
The cable meets IEC 62196-2, carries the CE mark, is sealed to IP55 and is specified from -30C to +50C.

Does the Ford Focus Electric use Type 1 or Type 2?
The UK car sold from 2013 to 2016 uses Type 1, the five pin connector. A 2017 European facelift moved to Type 2 with CCS rapid charging, and we cannot confirm it reached the UK, so count the pins on a late car before ordering.
Should I buy the 16A or 32A cable for a Focus Electric?
Thirty two amps, unusually for a Type 1 car. The Focus accepts 6.6 kW, and only the 32A cable can hand it that much. A 16A lead caps the car at 3.7 kW and nearly doubles the charge time.
Where is the charging socket on a Focus Electric?
On the nearside front wing, ahead of the driver's door, behind a flap with an illuminated ring. It is a body side position, so it is the same on a UK right hand drive car.
How far will a Focus Electric go?
There is no reliable official range figure for the UK car, and independent estimates for the 23 kWh version sit in the region of 65 miles. Battery condition on a car this age matters more than the original number, so judge it on a test drive.
