Four battery sizes, one charging speed
SE Standard Range is 50.8 kWh usable and 218 miles. The 64 kWh Long Range and XPower are 61.7 usable, quoted at 281 miles on the SE, 270 on the Trophy and 239 to 260 on the XPower. Trophy Extended Range is 74.4 usable and 323 to 351 miles. All of them use the same single phase onboard charger.
That charger is the thing worth knowing. It is rated around 6.6 kW, and sources disagree between 6.6 and 7 kW because MG has never published a plain figure. Either way it sits just under the 7.4 kW a British home supply can deliver, so the 32A cable hands the car everything it can take. No cable can lift that figure: the onboard charger decides it.

Times below are computed from the pack size and the power drawn with 13 per cent allowed for charging losses. The miles column uses 3.5 miles per kWh, which holds up in winter as well as summer. The three columns are the Standard Range, the 64 kWh cars and the Extended Range. There is no three phase row because the MG4 has no three phase capability to put in one.
DC rapid charging is where the MG4 is strong, and the figure has climbed with the model years: roughly 87 to 135 kW on the early Standard Range, 135 to 144 kW on the Long Range and Extended Range, and 154 kW on the 2026 Premium Long Range. Sources vary on the exact peak, which is why we give a range rather than pick one.
Which length for an MG4
Worth reading this bit even if you think you know. The MG4 charges from the rear nearside, behind the left rear wheel, not from the front. Plenty of guides say front, and getting it wrong flips the length advice completely.
Because the port is at the back left, reversing onto a drive with the charge point on the left is the easy case and 5 metres will do. Nose in, which is what most people do, and the cable has to travel the whole 4.3 metres of car plus the run to the socket, so 10 metres is the buy. If you are not sure which way you park more often, buy 10. Measure from the charge point to the inlet as the car actually parks, then add two metres of slack.

What cable does an MG4 need?
A Type 2 to Type 2 lead at 32A. The car draws around 6.6 kW on single phase, which a 32A cable carries comfortably, and there is no three phase capability to buy for.
Where is the MG4 charge port?
The rear nearside, behind the left rear wheel. Not the front, despite what several guides say. It matters, because it means nose-in parking is the awkward case rather than the easy one.
How long does an MG4 take to charge at home?
From empty at 6.6 kW, roughly nine hours for the 51 kWh Standard Range, eleven for the 64 kWh cars and thirteen for the Extended Range.
Is a 16A cable enough?
It will work but it halves the speed the car can accept. On a 64 kWh MG4 that is eleven hours becoming twenty, so the 32A lead is worth the difference here.
