Two batteries, two chemistries, one charger
SE Standard Range uses a 49 kWh lithium iron phosphate pack, 47.1 kWh usable, good for 211 miles WLTP. Long Range is a 64 kWh nickel manganese cobalt pack at 62.1 kWh usable, quoted at 298 miles as the SE and 288 as the Trophy. MG's own owner's manual lists the AC charging figure as about 6.6 kW single phase for both.
Reviews and spec databases tend to say 7 or 7.2 kW. That is the wallbox rating rather than what the car draws, and MG's manual is the better source. Neither battery has a three phase option. A bigger cable cannot change this, because the limit sits in the car rather than the lead.
How long a full charge takes

Those times come from dividing the pack by the delivered power and adding 13 per cent for losses, then rounding to the quarter hour. Miles per hour is worked at a conservative 3.5 miles per kWh. MG's own manual gives roughly nine to ten hours on an AC charging point for the Long Range, which matches the table.
DC is 120 kW on the Standard Range for a 10 to 80 per cent stop of about 26 minutes, and 139 kW on the Long Range for about 31 minutes. So the S5 is quick on the motorway and unremarkable on AC, which is the normal shape for this class.
Which length for an S5
The flap is on the rear nearside, on the left rear wing. Reviews describe it as the passenger side, which is the same thing on a UK car but would flip on an import, so nearside is the safer way to say it.
A rear left port means reversing in with the charge point on the left is the easy case, and 5 metres covers it. Nose in and the lead crosses 4.5 metres of car before it starts, so 10 metres. The honest way to choose is to measure the real parking position and allow two metres spare.
How these cables are built
Construction is to IEC 62196-2 with CE marking, IP55 weather protection and a -30C to +50C operating range.
The three pin cable is built to IEC 62752, CE marked, sealed to IP67 and rated from -30C to +60C. The manufacturer warrants it for two years, delivery in the UK is free and next working day, and returns run to 30 days.

MG S5 EV charging cable questions
What cable does an MG S5 EV need?
A 32A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. MG's manual puts the onboard charger at about 6.6 kW single phase, so a 32A lead gives the car everything it can draw.
How long does an S5 take to charge at home?
Around eight hours from empty for the 49 kWh Standard Range and about ten and a half for the 64 kWh Long Range, at 6.6 kW.
Which side does the S5 charge from?
The rear nearside, the left rear wing. That is the kerb side on a UK car, so reversing onto a drive with the charge point on the left is the easiest arrangement.
Is a three phase cable any use?
No. Neither S5 battery has a three phase charger, so the three phase lead would deliver the same 6.6 kW as the single phase one.
