Five models, all Type 2, and MG is the one brand on this site where knowing the badge tells you almost nothing about where the socket is. Some MGs charge from the centre of the nose, others from the rear nearside, and one changed flank partway through its life.
Reading the home charging column
A single phase supply and a 32 amp charge point give about 7.4 kW, and that is the ceiling for every car listed. Higher ratings need three phases that British housing stock does not have, and lower ratings are set by the car. The table shows what each model actually takes, not what its brochure headline says.
The differences that change your order
On charging rate the range is tight: the MG4, MG5 and S5 at 6.6 kW and the ZS at 7 kW, and a 32 amp lead meets it exactly. Treat a lower rating with less suspicion than it deserves. Where the charger is single phase the car collects its whole rating at a British house, which a three phase car never does.
The HS plug-in hybrid is the one that needs its year checking. The 2020 to 2024 car runs a 3.7 kW charger and a 16 amp lead covers it; the later car takes 6.6 kW. It also swapped flanks mid-life, from the rear offside to the rear nearside, so a used HS can differ from another used HS in both respects.
The socket position is the detail to look up rather than infer here. It differs between models, and each page gives it. The MG5 and ZS sit behind a section of the grille at the centre of the nose, a completely different run from the MG4 and S5 at the rear nearside. Get it wrong and a five metre lead will not reach.
Getting the length right
Work out the run, not the car. A socket on the far flank from your charge point adds the width of the vehicle to the distance, and a socket at the opposite end adds its length. The model pages give both so you can measure once and order once.
This is the brand where we would most strongly recommend reading the model page first. A nose-charging ZS parked head in wants five metres; a rear-charging MG4 with the charge point at the front of the bay wants ten.

Where is the charge socket on an MG?
It depends entirely on the model. The MG5 and ZS charge from the centre of the nose, the MG4 and S5 from the rear nearside, and the HS plug-in hybrid moved flank in 2024.
Is 6.6 kW slow for a home charger?
No. It is a single phase figure, so a British house delivers all of it, and the gap to a 7.4 kW car is about twelve per cent.
