Three versions, all 6.6 kW
The original 52.5 kWh car of 2020 to 2021 holds 48.8 kWh usable and does 214 miles. The Long Range that followed in July 2021, and the July 2022 facelift, both carry 57.4 kWh usable from a 61.1 kWh pack, quoted at 250 miles and 235 on the facelift Trophy. The onboard charger is 6.6 kW single phase throughout.
MG's European press release for the 2022 facelift does mention three phase charging at up to 11 kW. No UK specification sheet repeats it and no UK road test mentions three phase at all, so we have left it off this page. It would make no difference at a British house in any case, where the supply caps you at 7.4 kW. The ceiling is the car, so a heavier cable finishes at the same time.

Hours come from dividing the pack by the power the car actually draws, with 13 per cent added for losses. The range column is deliberately cautious, at 3.5 miles per kWh. The columns are the 52.5 kWh car and the Long Range. DC rapid charging went from about 63 kW on the early Long Range to 87 kW on the facelift, and 80 kW on the original 52.5 kWh car.
An estate that does 250 miles and takes a full charge overnight suits the people who actually buy them, which is mostly high mileage drivers and taxi work. If that is you, buy the 32A lead and buy it long enough that you are not fighting it at the end of a shift.
Which length for an MG5
The inlet is in the nose, centrally, behind a section of the front grille, and the 2022 facelift kept it there. Central means there is no nearside or offside to get wrong and no difference between left and right hand drive cars.
It also means nose-in parking is the best case rather than the worst. Nose in towards the charge point and 5 metres is plenty even though the MG5 is a 4.6 metre estate. Reverse in and the lead has to come the full length of the car, so 10 metres. Pace it out from the socket to the flap with the car parked as it always is, then allow a little extra.

MG5 EV charging cable questions
What cable does an MG5 EV need?
Type 2 to Type 2 at 32A. The car's onboard charger is 6.6 kW single phase, which a 32A lead carries with room to spare.
Where does an MG5 plug in?
The centre of the nose, behind a panel in the front grille. There is no left or right to it, which makes nose-in parking the easy case.
How long does an MG5 take to charge?
From empty at 6.6 kW, about eight and three quarter hours for the 52.5 kWh car and just over ten for the Long Range.
Does the facelift charge faster on AC?
Not in Britain. MG's European material mentions 11 kW three phase on the 2022 car, but no UK source confirms it and a single phase home supply would cap it at 7.4 kW regardless.
