One model, and a simple one. The Spring is a Type 2 car with a CCS socket for rapid charging, and it charges from the centre of the nose behind the grille badge, which is the friendliest arrangement there is on a driveway.
What actually separates one {M} from another
The home figures below assume the single phase supply a British house actually has, and its 7.4 kW ceiling.
The Spring takes 7 kW and that charger is single phase, so a British house hands over the whole of it with nothing lost to phases that are not there. Lower on paper, identical in practice is a recurring pattern. A single phase charger gives its full rating on a British supply, so the real gap between it and a three phase car is small. and a 32 amp lead meets it exactly.
Because the battery is small by modern standards, 7 kW is more than enough. A full charge is an evening rather than a night, and on a cheap overnight tariff the cost of a week of local driving is trivial. That combination of a small battery and a charger the house can satisfy completely is what makes the Spring cheap to run rather than just cheap to buy.
The central front socket comes from the same Renault group thinking as the Zoe and Kangoo, and it has the same practical consequence: the cable run depends on which way you park far more than on the width of the car.
Choosing a length
Length depends on your driveway rather than the car, with one exception: a socket at the front of the car and a charge point behind it will need a longer lead than the numbers suggest. Each product page states the flank and the end, so check it before choosing.
Park nose in to a wall box and five metres is generous on a car this short. Reverse in and you will want most of ten, because the cable then has to run the length of the vehicle.
How these cables are built
