The most useful document Porsche publishes for this car
The 2024 Panamera technical data sheet gives two charge times rather than one: 2 hours 39 minutes at 11 kW three phase, and 3 hours 15 minutes at 9.6 kW single phase. That second row is unusually honest and unusually helpful, because it proves the onboard charger will draw well over 16 amps on a single phase.
The consequence is that a British house, not the car, is the binding limit. A 32 amp home supply at 230 volts is 7.36 kW, so a full charge of the 21.8 kWh usable pack takes about three hours on a driveway. Porsche has fitted three different chargers to its plug-in cars and the phase count matters more than the kilowatt figure. The 3.6 kW and 7.2 kW units are single phase, so a British house hands them everything they ask for. The 11 kW unit that arrived in 2024 is three phase, and one phase of it is 7.4 kW. Moving up from 7.2 to 11 therefore gains a UK owner almost nothing at home.
No Panamera E-Hybrid rapid charges
Nothing on this car takes DC. There is no rapid socket to fall back on, so the Type 2 lead is not an accessory you might use, it is the only route electricity ever takes into the battery. Buy a used one without a cable in the boot and it is a petrol car until you do.
That has been true from the 2013 S E-Hybrid through to the current 972 generation. Porsche has never fitted a DC socket to a Panamera plug-in, so the Type 2 lead does all of the work on every one of them.
Four generations of battery
The 970 S E-Hybrid of 2013 had 9.4 kWh and a 3.6 kW single phase charger. The 971 of 2017 had 14.1 kWh, with 3.6 kW standard and a 7.2 kW single phase upgrade for about five hundred pounds. The 2021 revision took the pack to 17.9 kWh with the 7.2 kW charger, and the 2024 car carries 25.9 kWh gross, 21.8 usable, with the 11 kW three phase unit.
WLTP electric range on the current car runs 51 to 60 miles depending on version. The 971 cars were quoted on NEDC and no official WLTP figure exists for them; the 17.9 kWh 4S managed about 34 real miles.

Which length for a Panamera
Nearside rear quarter on every generation. Porsche rescue data sheets cover the 970, the 971 and the Sport Turismo with the same phrase: the charging connection is behind the charging socket lid on the rear left side. The fuel filler is on the offside.
The inlet is at the nearside rear, in the conventional filler position. Being on the kerb side is a small everyday advantage; being at the back means the length you need depends on whether you nose in or reverse. This is a five metre car with a rear socket, so ten metres is the sensible default and five only where you reverse in tight to the charge point. Work it out from where the car genuinely sits, not where it could sit, and leave slack.
