    There is a socket on each side of the car

    Porsche GB states it in one sentence: "AC charging is possible on both the left and right side... DC fast charging is only available on the left side, where the high-power charging port is located". Both ports sit in the rear side panels, so whichever flank your charge point is on, there is an inlet facing it.

    That is not mirrored for right hand drive. Porsche GB says left, the left hand drive press material says left, and a UK owner of a right hand drive car confirms it from the driveway: AC and DC on the left rear looking forward, AC on the right rear. So on a British Macan the combined port is on the kerb side.

    What that means for cable length

    Most electric cars force you to buy for the longest possible run, because the socket is on one flank and you cannot control which side the charge point ends up on. This car does not. One of its two inlets always faces your wall box, so a five metre lead often does a job that would need ten on a single port car of the same size.

    The exception is if you want to use the rapid socket at a public post, which only exists on the nearside. On a driveway that is irrelevant; you will be using AC. Work it out from where the car genuinely sits, not where it could sit, and leave slack.

    At home it is 7.4 kW, and the 22 kW option changes nothing

    The 22 kW upgrade is worth nothing at all on a normal domestic supply. It is a three phase device and three phase power does not reach British houses. On a driveway a 22 kW car and an 11 kW car charge at precisely the same speed, which is about 7.4 kW.

    Porsche made the 22 kW charger optional on the Macan, Macan 4 and Macan 4S and standard on the GTS and Turbo from the 2027 model year. On a British driveway none of that matters: the 11 kW and 22 kW cars both take 32 amps from the one phase available and both arrive at 7.4 kW.

    Battery and rapid charging

    The pack is 100 kWh gross with 94.9 usable, an 800 volt design with 180 cells. WLTP range spans 325 to 398 miles across the versions. Rapid charging peaks at 270 kW and does ten to eighty per cent in about 21 minutes; at a 400 volt post the car splits the battery into two banks and manages 135 kW, which is a neat piece of engineering and worth knowing if your local rapid is an older unit.

    Hours are worked from battery size against power drawn, plus a 13 per cent allowance for what is lost as heat, rounded to fifteen minutes. Miles per hour is worked at a conservative 3.5 miles per kWh. Worked from 94.9 kWh usable of the 100 kWh pack.

    Fourteen hours from empty is longer than a night, so nightly top ups beat occasional full charges on a car with a battery this size.

    How these cables are built

    It is made to IEC 62196-2, CE marked, and sealed to IP55 across a -30C to +50C temperature range.

    The three pin unit is IEC 62752 compliant, CE marked, IP67 against water and rated -30C to +60C. Warranty is two years from the manufacturer, delivery free next working day, returns accepted for 30 days.

    Porsche Macan Electric charging cable questions

    Does the Macan Electric have two charge ports?

    Yes, one in each rear side panel. Both take AC. Only the nearside one carries the DC rapid charging pins.

    Can I buy a shorter cable because of the two ports?

    Usually yes. One inlet always faces your charge point, so five metres often covers what would need ten on a single port car.

    Is the 22 kW charger worth specifying?

    Not for home charging. Both chargers give 7.4 kW on a British single phase supply. It only helps at a 22 kW public AC post.

    Where exactly are the sockets?

    Rear side panels, one per flank. On a UK car the nearside rear port is the combined AC and DC one.
