Five Porsches, all Type 2 for AC, and two of them do something almost nothing else here does: carry a socket on each side of the car.

The Taycan and Macan Electric have two ports each

The Taycan has a Type 2 socket in each front wing and the Macan Electric one in each rear quarter. Both take AC on either side, and only one carries the DC pins. Porsche GB puts the DC side as the passenger side, which on a right hand drive car is the nearside.

That changes the cable you buy rather than being a curiosity: one inlet always faces your charge point, so five metres frequently does a job that would need ten on a single port car. A couple of sources place the Taycan DC port on the offside instead, most likely reproducing left hand drive data, so the model page says to check your own car.

What a British supply actually delivers

There is a single ceiling here and it belongs to your electricity supply, not to the car. Thirty two amps on one phase is about 7.4 kW. A car rated at 11 or 22 kW meets that ceiling and stops; a car rated at 3.6 kW never reaches it.

The differences that change your order

Porsche fitted three different chargers across these cars, and the phase count matters far more than the kilowatt figure. The 3.6 and 7.2 kW units are single phase, so a British house hands over their full rating. The 11 kW unit of 2024 is three phase and gives about 7.4 kW here, so that upgrade bought British owners almost nothing at home.

The best evidence is Porsche's own 2024 Panamera data sheet, which prints two charge times: 2 hours 39 minutes at 11 kW three phase, and 3 hours 15 minutes at 9.6 kW single phase. Published single phase rows are rare and very useful.

An optional 22 kW charger appears on the Taycan and Macan. It needs three phases at 32 amps each, so it changes nothing on a driveway. Buy it for a destination post or not at all.

The 918 Spyder is the outlier: one 16 amp circuit and a 3.6 kW ceiling on an 887 horsepower car, so a 16 amp lead already carries everything the car will accept. Neither it nor the Cayenne and Panamera E-Hybrids has a DC socket at all.

Getting the length right

The only reliable way is to measure it. Where the charge point is, where the flap ends up, and the path between them, then pick the next size up.

The two-port cars need less cable than their size suggests. The Cayenne and Panamera charge from the nearside rear, fixed by part number rather than by market, so it does not mirror for right hand drive.

Build quality, warranty and delivery

The cables themselves do not vary by car. Tinned copper conductors, IP67 sealed moulded ends, a jacket that does not go stiff in winter, two years of warranty, free next working day delivery.

Does the Taycan really have two charge ports?

Yes, one in each front wing. Both take AC and only one carries the DC pins. The Macan Electric does the same thing with two rear ports.

Can I buy a shorter cable because of the two ports?

Usually, yes. One inlet always faces your charge point, so five metres often covers what would need ten on a single port car.

Is the 22 kW charger worth specifying?

Not for home charging. It needs three phases at 32 amps each, which no British house has, so the car still takes about 7.4 kW.

Can a Cayenne or Panamera E-Hybrid rapid charge?

No. Neither has a DC inlet in any generation, so the Type 2 lead is the only way to charge them.

Did the 11 kW charger make the 2024 cars faster at home?

Barely. It is three phase, so it lands at about 7.4 kW here against 7.2 kW for the older single phase unit.
