    Four versions, identical charging hardware

    Elroq 50 holds 52 kWh usable for about 234 miles. The 60 is 59 kWh for roughly 267 to 274 miles. The 85 and 85x are quoted by Skoda at 77 kWh net for around 364 to 372 miles, and the vRS at 79 kWh for about 341. Skoda's own press kit is unambiguous that all Elroq models support charging at up to 11 kW on AC.

    The 7.4 kW ceiling is the house, not the cable: three phase ratings only mean something where three phases arrive. Skoda knows it too, which is why its own UK full-charge times are quoted at 7.2 kW rather than 11: about ten hours for the 60 and thirteen for the 85. Those are single phase figures for single phase houses.

    Hours are worked from battery size against power drawn, plus a 13 per cent allowance for what is lost as heat, rounded to fifteen minutes. Miles per hour is worked at a conservative 3.5 miles per kWh. Columns are the 50, the 60 and the 77 kWh cars. Our calculated times and Skoda's published ones agree to within a quarter of an hour, which is about as close as this arithmetic gets.

    DC rapid charging runs from about 135 kW to 185 kW depending on version, with Skoda quoting 10 to 80 per cent in roughly 25 to 29 minutes. Sources differ on the peak for the 85, most likely because single and dual motor cars behave differently.

    Which length for an Elroq

    Rear offside, the right hand side of the body, same as the Enyaq and every other MEB car. On a UK Elroq that is the driver's side, and the position is fixed to the body rather than mirrored for the steering wheel.

    At 4.49 metres the Elroq is shorter than the Enyaq, which helps. Back it in with the wall box on the right and 5 metres reaches. Nose in, and the lead has to come round the car, which is 10 metres. Work it out from where the car genuinely sits, not where it could sit, and leave slack.

    How these cables are built

    IEC 62196-2 construction, CE marked, IP55 sealed and tested from -30C through to +50C.

    What cable does a Skoda Elroq need?

    A 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Skoda rates every Elroq at 11 kW on AC, but that needs three phases, and a UK home supply delivers 7.4 kW.

    How long does an Elroq take to charge?

    Skoda's own figures are about ten hours for the 60 and thirteen for the 85, at 7.2 kW. A seven hour overnight window adds roughly 180 miles.

    Where does an Elroq plug in?

    The rear offside, on the right of the body. It is the standard Volkswagen Group MEB position, shared with the Enyaq.

    Is the 11 kW figure worth paying for a three phase cable?

    Only if you charge somewhere with three phases. At a house the three phase cable gives the same 7.4 kW as the single phase one, so it is money for nothing.
