The biggest battery on this site
The 2021 to 2023 EQS carries 107.8 kWh usable. The 2024 facelift carries 118. Quoted ranges reach about 507 miles on the facelift 450+, 492 on the 500 4MATIC and 389 on the AMG EQS 53, which are numbers no other car here comes close to.
The 7.4 kW ceiling is the house, not the cable: three phase ratings only mean something where three phases arrive. So the 32A single phase lead is the whole decision, and the manufacturer charge time you have read is a three phase one. Mercedes quotes 600 minutes for a full charge on 11 kW and 300 on the optional 22 kW. Neither is available at a house, where the honest figure is about eighteen hours from genuinely empty.
Why that number is less alarming than it sounds
Eighteen hours reads badly until you work out what it buys. A seven hour off peak window on this car moves roughly 180 miles into the battery, which for most owners is a week of driving put back in a single night at the cheapest rate of the day.
Nobody charges an EQS from nought. The practical pattern is topping up whatever the day used, which is usually two or three hours, and the eighteen hour figure only ever appears on a spreadsheet. What it does argue for is a cable that reaches without effort, because on a car like this you plug in every night out of habit rather than necessity, and a lead you have to drag round the car is one that eventually gets left coiled.

The arithmetic is simple: kWh over kW, 13 per cent on top for losses, rounded to the nearest quarter hour. The miles column uses 3.5 miles per kWh, which holds up in winter as well as summer. Columns are the 2021 to 2023 car and the 2024 facelift. The three pin row is there to be dismissed: a 13 amp socket needs the better part of three days for the larger pack.
DC rapid charging is 200 kW, which is where an EQS makes up time on a long run. This cable is for the driveway.
Which length for an EQS

The EQS is 5.22 metres long, which makes it the longest car we sell a cable for. Five metres is not a realistic choice unless you reverse in and the charge point is on the right; ten is the sensible default, and a long drive or a shared bay genuinely calls for fifteen or twenty. Pace it out from the socket to the flap with the car parked as it always is, then allow a little extra.
How these cables are built
It is a CE marked IEC 62196-2 cable, IP55 against the weather, rated to work between -30C and +50C.

What cable does an EQS need?
A 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable, and we would buy 10 metres as a minimum on a car over five metres long.
How long does an EQS take to charge at home?
About sixteen hours for the 107.8 kWh car and eighteen for the 118 kWh facelift, from genuinely empty at 7.4 kW. In practice you top up what the day used, which is rarely more than a few hours.
Is the 22 kW option worth having?
Only with a three phase supply. It halves Mercedes's quoted time, but a British house gives 7.4 kW whichever charger is fitted.
Where is the charge port?
The rear offside, on the right of the body, the same as every other Mercedes EQ model.
