Three plug-in GLEs, and they are not much alike
The 2015 to 2018 GLE 500 e carries 8.8 kWh gross and about twelve miles of electric range on the old NEDC test. Its charger tops out at 3.7 kW even on a single phase, which makes it a 16A car and a quick one to fill: two and a half hours or so, because there is so little to fill.
The 2019 to 2023 GLE 350 de is a far more serious machine: 31.2 kWh gross and 27 kWh usable, about sixty miles of electric range, and a 7.4 kW charger that is genuinely single phase. A British house gives it the whole rate, so a 32A cable is worth having and a full charge takes about three and a quarter hours. A 60 kW DC socket was available as an option.
The 2023 facelift, and a figure we cannot give you
The facelifted GLE 400 e and GLE 350 de keep the 31.2 kWh pack, take electric range to about 65 and 62 miles, and make the 60 kW DC socket standard. Their AC charger is quoted at 11 kW and labelled three phase, with no single phase figure published.
That is the same shape as the 2023 E-Class and the 2022 GLC, and Mercedes has a confirmed phase trap on the facelift A 250 e, CLA 250 e and GLA 250 e, where a three phase upgrade leaves a house on 3.7 kW. We do not know which way the facelift GLE falls, so we will not say. Ask a dealer for the single phase rate before paying for 32A on that car.

The calculation is the battery over the delivered kW, uplifted 13 per cent for charging losses, quarter hour rounded. Columns are the GLE 500 e at 8.8 kWh gross and the GLE 350 de at 27 kWh usable. Read the 500 e down the 16A row, which is the only one it can use. Our figure for the 350 de and Mercedes's published 195 minutes agree closely.
Which length for a GLE

The GLE is 4.92 metres and very wide, and it is a car people reverse onto drives. Even in the best case that is a long way from a front-mounted wall box, so 10 metres is the realistic answer unless your charge point happens to sit at the right rear corner. The honest way to choose is to measure the real parking position and allow two metres spare.
How these cables are built
The cable meets IEC 62196-2, carries the CE mark, is sealed to IP55 and is specified from -30C to +50C.
On the three pin side the standard is IEC 62752, with CE marking, IP67 sealing and a -30C to +60C range. Two year warranty from the manufacturer, free next day delivery in the UK, 30 day returns.

Which cable does a GLE plug-in need?
A 16A Type 2 to Type 2 lead for a 2015 to 2018 GLE 500 e, which caps at 3.7 kW. A 32A lead for a 2019 to 2023 GLE 350 de, whose 7.4 kW charger is genuinely single phase.
How far does a GLE 350 de go on electric?
About sixty miles WLTP from its 27 kWh usable pack, which is a great deal more than the twelve miles the old GLE 500 e managed on eight point eight.
Can a GLE plug-in rapid charge?
The 2019 to 2023 GLE 350 de could, at 60 kW, as an option. On the 2023 facelift it is standard. The 2015 to 2018 GLE 500 e has no DC at all.
What about the 2023 facelift on AC?
Its 11 kW charger is labelled three phase and no single phase figure is published, so we cannot honestly tell you whether a 32A cable helps. Ask a dealer.
