    Two pack sizes across the range

    The EQA 250, 300 4MATIC and 350 4MATIC carry 66.5 kWh usable from a 69.7 kWh pack. The EQA 250+ introduced in December 2023 carries 70.5 kWh usable from 73.9. Quoted ranges run from 267 miles on the earliest EQA 250 through 286 on the four wheel drive cars to 348 on the 250+.

    Worth a note of caution on one figure: the EQA 250 is credited with 328 miles after its 2023 update on the same nominal battery that gave 267 before. That is a big jump for a mid-life change and it rests on a single source, so treat it as the optimistic end.

    What 11 kW gives you at home

    Read 11 kW as a three phase figure. A home charge point on a single phase hands the car 7.4 kW. The 32A single phase cable covers it in full. Anything quoted quicker elsewhere is a three phase figure rather than a home one.

    Mercedes does offer a 22 kW three phase upgrade on some EQAs, and it is worth knowing that the standard onboard charger caps at 11 kW regardless, so the option is narrower than it sounds even where three phases exist. The roughly eleven hour full charge figure published for these cars is an 11 kW measurement; on a British supply expect nearer thirteen.

    Times below are computed from the pack size and the power drawn with 13 per cent allowed for charging losses. The miles column uses 3.5 miles per kWh, which holds up in winter as well as summer. Columns are the 66.5 kWh cars and the EQA 250+ at 70.5 kWh usable.

    DC rapid charging is 102 to 112 kW depending on version, for a 10 to 80 per cent stop of around half an hour.

    Choosing between the EQA 250 and the 250+

    If you are buying used and weighing the two, the 250+ carries 70.5 kWh usable against 66.5, which is a four kilowatt hour difference and worth about twenty real miles. Both charge at the same rate, so the larger pack takes proportionately longer: roughly forty minutes more from empty on a home supply.

    The four wheel drive EQA 300 and 350 use the smaller pack and give up range to the extra motor, landing around 286 miles against the 250+ figure of 348. None of that changes the cable, but it does change how often you reach for it, and on a car that takes thirteen hours from flat, frequency is the number that shapes the ownership experience.

    Which length for an EQA

    The inlet is on the rear offside, the right hand side of the body. Mercedes uses that position across its electric range, so it matches the EQC and the new electric CLA.

    The EQA is 4.46 metres. Reverse onto a drive with the charge point on the right and 5 metres reaches comfortably. Nose in, or a wall box on the nearside, and 10 metres. Choose on the real distance from inlet to charge point, not the distance on the drawing, and never buy it tight.

    How these cables are built

    A 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable. The 11 kW rating needs three phases; a British home supply gives the car 7.4 kW.

    How long does an EQA take to charge at home?

    About thirteen hours from genuinely empty at 7.4 kW. The eleven hour figure quoted elsewhere assumes an 11 kW three phase wallbox.

    Is the 22 kW option worth having?

    Not at a house. It needs three phases, and the standard onboard charger caps at 11 kW in any case, so a UK home charge point delivers 7.4 kW either way.

    Where is the charge port?

    The rear offside, on the right of the body, the same position Mercedes uses on the EQC and the electric CLA.
