The plug-in hybrid that rewards a 32A cable
Most plug-in hybrids cap out around 3.3 kW, which makes the cable choice academic. The Sportage PHEV does not: Kia fits a 7.2 kW charger, so it can take almost everything a British house can supply and a 32A lead fills the 13.8 kWh battery in well under two hours.
On a 16A cable the same charge takes closer to three and a half. That is the difference between plugging in after dinner and plugging in overnight.
The charge port is at the back, not the front
Worth being clear about, because it is easy to assume otherwise. The flap is on the rear offside quarter panel, between the tail lamp and the wheel arch, verified from Kia's own responder documentation. The Sorento PHEV shares the layout.
So reversing onto a drive with the charge point on the offside puts the socket close and 5 metres works. Park nose in and the lead runs the full length of the car, which is a 10 metre job.

Hours come from dividing the pack by the power the car actually draws, with 13 per cent added for losses. The 13.8 kWh figure is Kia's total capacity, with no usable figure published. Electric range is 43 miles WLTP, 48 on the city cycle.
How these cables are built
IEC 62196-2 construction, CE marked, IP55 sealed and tested from -30C through to +50C.
The three pin version is an IEC 62752 unit, CE marked and IP67 sealed, specified -30C to +60C. Warranty is two years from the manufacturer, delivery free next working day, returns accepted for 30 days.

Kia Sportage PHEV charging cable questions
Should I buy 16A or 32A for a Sportage PHEV?
Thirty two amps, unusually for a plug-in hybrid. This car has a 7.2 kW onboard charger, so it can use most of what a 7 kW wall box supplies, and the bigger cable roughly halves the charge time.
Where is the charge port on a Kia Sportage PHEV?
On the rear offside quarter panel, between the tail lamp and the rear wheel arch. It is not in the nose, which is a common assumption on this car.
How long does a Sportage PHEV take to charge?
Under two hours from empty on a 7 kW home charger, and about three and a half on a 16A cable. From a three pin socket, allow six.
Does the figure change on the facelift car?
Possibly, and Kia UK has not published PHEV figures for it yet. The battery, charger and range quoted here are verified for the 2022 to 2024 car, so check a newer one against Kia's own specification before assuming they carried over.
