    Charging your EV6 at home

    Three batteries have been sold here: 60 kWh usable on the standard range facelift car, 74 kWh on the 2021 to 2024 long range, and 80 kWh on the facelift long range. All of them accept 11 kW on AC.

    On paper 11 kW, in a driveway 7.4 kW, and the difference is the supply rather than the car or the cable. The practical upshot is that a 32A single phase Type 2 lead is what you want at home, and it is also the cable to carry for untethered public posts.

    Where Kia put the socket, and why it matters

    The flap is on the rear offside quarter panel, just forward of the tailgate. Kia chose that side deliberately so a car nosed into a garage can reach a charger on the right without the cable crossing the walkway.

    One warning if you research this online: the US built 2025 EV6 with the NACS connector moved its port to the left rear. That change is North America only, and UK and European cars remain rear offside. Five metres suits reversing in with the charger on that side; 10 metres covers everything else.

    Times below are computed from the pack size and the power drawn with 13 per cent allowed for charging losses. Range runs to about 265 miles WLTP on the standard range car and up to 362 on the facelift rear drive long range. Miles per hour is worked at 3.5 miles per kWh, a figure that survives a cold morning.

    How these cables are built

    The cable meets IEC 62196-2, carries the CE mark, is sealed to IP55 and is specified from -30C to +50C.

    Kia EV6 charging cable questions

    Which side is the Kia EV6 charge port on?

    The rear offside quarter panel, which is the driver's side on a UK car, just forward of the tailgate. Kia picked that side so you can nose into a garage and still reach a charger on the right.

    What charging cable does an EV6 use?

    A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Take the 32A single phase version for home use: the car accepts 11 kW on AC and a single phase house supplies 7.4 kW of that.

    How long does an EV6 take on a home charger?

    From empty at 7.4 kW, roughly nine and a half hours for the 60 kWh car, eleven and a half for the 74 kWh and twelve and a half for the 80 kWh. Overnight covers about 180 miles of driving on any of them.

    Can the EV6 use a 22kW post?

    It will connect, but the car limits itself to 11 kW on AC, so a 22 kW post gives 11 kW at best. That still beats a home supply, which is capped at 7.4 kW.

    Is a granny charger worth carrying?

    As a backup. At about 2.3 kW from a 13 amp socket you gain roughly eight miles an hour, which is a useful night away from a charge point and impractical as a routine.
