Hatch or Sportstourer, the split that matters is the year
Both body styles have been sold as e-HYBRIDs since 2020 and both went through the same mid-2024 change, so the estate and the hatchback need exactly the same thinking. What separates one Leon e-HYBRID from another is the model year.
The 2020 to mid-2024 car runs a 12.8 kWh gross battery with around 10.6 kWh usable, quoted at 39 miles of electric range on the 204 PS hatch, 37 on the VZ and 35 to 36 on the estate. From mid-2024 the battery became 19.7 kWh usable, and electric range went to 81 miles on the 204 PS hatch and 74 to 77 on the VZ cars.
Before mid-2024: a 16A car, and Cupra says so
The earlier Leon e-HYBRID takes 3.6 kW on a single phase, and single phase is what it was designed around, so a British house delivers the full rate. Cupra's own UK price list prints the row as a charging time of three hours thirty-three minutes from empty at 3.6 kW on 16 amps, alongside five hours from a 2.3 kW domestic socket. An Australian road test of the VZ version independently records the ceiling as 3.7 kW.
A bigger cable cannot change this, because the limit sits in the car rather than the lead. So the 16A cable is the correct purchase for these cars, and choosing the 32A version buys current that never leaves the wall box.
Rapid chargers are irrelevant here, because there is no DC connector to plug them into. The Type 2 cable does all of the work, which is why a missing one on a used car is a bigger problem than most buyers expect.
From mid-2024: DC charging, and one unresolved figure
The newer car picked up a CCS inlet rated at 50 kW, ten to eighty per cent in 26 minutes. Cupra's press material for the related SEAT version puts it plainly: up to 50 kW on DC, or 11 kW on an AC wall box.
We are going to be straight with you about what is not known. The newer car is quoted at 11 kW across three phases, and nobody publishes what it draws from one. An 11 kW unit is normally 16A on each of three phases, and if that is all it can do, a British house would see roughly 3.7 kW. Against that, Cupra now supplies a 32A cable with the car where the older one came with a 16A lead, which only makes sense if the car can use 32A. We have not found a source that settles it, so we will not print a number we cannot stand behind. Buy the 32A lead, which covers the good outcome and costs nothing in the bad one, and ask a dealer for the single phase figure if you want certainty.

Hours are worked from battery size against power drawn, plus a 13 per cent allowance for what is lost as heat, rounded to fifteen minutes. Miles per hour is worked at 3.5 miles per kWh, a figure that survives a cold morning. The columns are the two batteries: 10.6 kWh usable before mid-2024 and 19.7 after. Treat the 32A row as conditional on the later car actually drawing 32A from one phase.
Both are overnight-and-then-some charges rather than all-night ones. On a cheap tariff the earlier car costs pennies to fill and the later one still finishes well inside a normal off-peak window.
Which length for a Leon e-HYBRID
The flap is on the nearside front wing on both generations and on both body styles. In the UK that is the pavement side, at the front of the car.
A hatchback is 4.4 metres and the Sportstourer 4.6, so if you park nose in with the charge point on your left, five metres covers it comfortably. Ten metres is for the offside wall box, the long driveway or the estate that lives nose out on a shared drive. Choose on the real distance from inlet to charge point, not the distance on the drawing, and never buy it tight.

Standards are IEC 62196-2 and CE, protection is IP55, and the specified working range runs -30C to +50C.

Do the hatchback and Sportstourer need different cables?
No. The body style makes no difference to charging at all. The model year does: a pre-2024 car wants 16A and a 2024-on car wants 32A.
Is a 32A cable worth it on a 2021 Leon e-HYBRID?
No. That car is capped at 3.6 kW and Cupra publishes the charge time to prove it, so a 16A lead delivers everything it can take.
Can a Leon e-HYBRID rapid charge?
Only the mid-2024-on car, at 50 kW on CCS. The earlier one has no DC socket, so the Type 2 lead is its only way of taking a charge.
How far will it go on electricity alone?
Cupra quotes 39 miles for the older 204 PS hatch and 81 miles for the 2024-on version. The estate and the VZ models sit a few miles below their hatchback equivalents.
