Look up your {M} and read across
Start with the table. Your model is in the first column and the lead to order is in the last, and the row links through to that car's own page for the charge port position and the real charging times.
Three models, all Type 2, all charging from the nearside rear quarter, and all reaching the same figure on a British driveway. This is one of the simplest collections here, and the only thing worth correcting is a widely repeated claim about the Polestar 2.
The 2024 facelift did not change the charger
You will read that the facelifted Polestar 2 got a different onboard charger. It did not, and Polestar's own owner manuals settle it: the three phase table reads 6 amps, 10 amps, then 16 amps at 11 kW maximum on both generations, with the same 48 amp single phase row underneath. The hardware is the same.
What the facelift genuinely changed was the battery, from 78 to 82 kWh on the Long Range, the DC peak from 155 to 205 kW, and the drive layout of the single motor car from front to rear wheel drive. None of that affects which cable you buy.
What varies across the {M} range
Domestic supplies here are single phase, which puts the practical limit at about 7.4 kW.
Almost nothing. All three take 11 kW three phase chargers and all three therefore land at about 7.4 kW here, and a 32 amp cable carries all of it. You will see 7.2 kW in Polestar's handbook where the databases print 7.4; both describe 32 amps on one phase and the difference is rounding rather than hardware.
The Polestar 4 is the one exception on paper, offering a 22 kW three phase charger. It needs three phases at 32 amps each and a British house has one, so it delivers the same 7.4 kW as the standard unit. Its value is at a 22 kW public AC post and nowhere near a driveway. Neither the Polestar 2 nor the 3 ever offered anything larger than 11 kW.
Because the batteries are large and the home rate is capped, these cars reward nightly top ups rather than occasional full charges. A Polestar 3 from genuinely empty is more than one night at 7.4 kW.
Getting the length right
Length depends on your driveway rather than the car, with one exception: a socket at the front of the car and a charge point behind it will need a longer lead than the numbers suggest. Each product page states the flank and the end, so check it before choosing.
All three charge from the nearside rear quarter, the kerb side at the back, with a motorised lid on the Polestar 4 and a manual flap on the 2. Ten metres suits cars of this size; five works where you reverse in close to the charge point.
How the cables are made
