    A large battery makes the home rate matter more

    A single number covers the whole range at home: roughly 7.4 kW. The 11 kW headline belongs to mainland Europe, where three phases reach a house. Polestar's own tables print 7.2 kW at 32 amps on one phase, which is the row that applies here.

    On a smaller car that ceiling is academic. On this one it is not: 107 kWh usable at 7.4 kW is more than sixteen hours from empty, which no single night accommodates. The practical answer is to plug in every evening rather than waiting until the battery is low, so you are always topping up rather than refilling.

    Two architectures, one charger

    Cars to the 2025 model year use a 400 volt architecture with a 111 kWh nominal pack, 107 usable, and 250 kW rapid charging. From 2026 the car moved to 800 volts with 92 or 106 kWh packs and up to 350 kW DC. The AC charger stayed at 11 kW through both, so the home figure is unchanged either way.

    Range spans 352 to 438 miles WLTP depending on version and year, with the single motor rear drive car at the top of that spread. Polestar own figures rose over time, so a road test from launch will quote a lower number than the current specification page.

    Figures are calculated rather than quoted: battery divided by power, 13 per cent for losses, quarter hour rounding. The range column assumes 3.5 miles per kWh rather than a summer best case. Worked from the 107 kWh usable figure of the 111 kWh pack.

    Three pin charging on a car this size is close to pointless, at roughly two full days from empty, and we would treat it strictly as an emergency measure rather than a plan.

    No 22 kW option, ever

    The Polestar 3 has never been offered with a charger larger than 11 kW. Its manual three phase table stops at 16 amps and 11 kW, with no 32 amp row. That is worth knowing because the Polestar 4 does have a 22 kW option, and the two get confused.

    Twenty two kilowatts is a public charging number, not a home one. The option needs three phases at 32 amps each; a house offers one phase at 32 amps, so the car draws 7.4 kW whether the upgrade is fitted or not. Buy it for the office car park, not the drive.

    Which length for a Polestar 3

    Nearside rear quarter, the same position as every other Polestar. You will find the socket on the nearside rear wing, exactly where you would look for a petrol cap. It is the pavement side of the car, which helps at a kerbside charge point and means the cable run depends on which way round you park.

    At 4.9 metres this is a large SUV, and with a rear socket that argues for ten metres unless you reverse in with the charge point close behind. Fifteen metres is worth considering for a garage charge point with the car parked on a drive in front. Pace it out from the socket to the flap with the car parked as it always is, then allow a little extra.

    How these cables are built

    Construction is to IEC 62196-2 with CE marking, IP55 weather protection and a -30C to +50C operating range.

    Polestar 3 charging cable questions

    What is a realistic overnight charge on a Polestar 3?

    Roughly sixteen hours would be needed from genuinely empty at 7.4 kW on a 107 kWh usable battery, so a full charge does not fit one night. Nightly top ups are a far better approach than running it down and refilling.

    Can it charge faster than 11 kW on AC?

    No. There has never been a 22 kW option for the Polestar 3, and at a British house the 11 kW charger gives 7.4 kW anyway.

    Where is the charge socket?

    Nearside rear quarter panel, same as the Polestar 2 and 4.

    Which length should I buy?

    Ten metres for most driveways given the size of the car. Fifteen metres if the charge point is in a garage and the car parks in front of it.
