Which {M} cable you need, in one table

The table is the short answer and the sections below it are the long one. Find your model, read across, and follow the link if you want the port position and the charging times as well.

Three models, all Type 2, all 6.6 kW, and every one of them charges from a different part of the car. That is the whole story of this collection, and it is why we would not order a length here without checking the model first.

How the models differ, and where it matters

The third column is what each car draws from a single phase British supply, which caps out near 7.4 kW on a 32 amp charge point.

Not the charging rate: 6.6 kW across the Omoda 7, Omoda 9 and E5, drawing roughly 29 amps, so the 32 amp lead is the one to order. Being a single phase figure it arrives in full at a British house, so the wall box waits on the car rather than the reverse. Treat a lower rating with less suspicion than it deserves. Where the charger is single phase the car collects its whole rating at a British house, which a three phase car never does.

This is a range where the socket genuinely moves about, so the length you need depends on which model you have. The pages below give the position for each. One Omoda charges from the FRONT, dead centre of the grille, with a flap released from inside. One charges from the nearside rear. One charges from the offside rear quarter behind the rear door. Three cars, three different cable runs, on a brand where almost nothing has been written about it anywhere else.

That grille position is the one worth flagging. A car that charges through the nose behaves completely differently on a driveway from one that charges at the back, and a five metre lead bought for the wrong assumption will not reach.

Picking a length for your driveway

Get the length from your own driveway. Five metres where the charge point is next to the socket, ten for most layouts, fifteen or twenty where the unit is in a garage and the car is not.

Given three positions across three cars, ten metres is the order we would make unless you have looked at your own. The grille-charging model parked nose in is the one case where five is comfortable.

The build, and where to look next

Build is common across the range. Moulded and sealed to IP67, tinned copper throughout, flexible below freezing, covered for two years, delivered free on the next working day.

Omoda charging cable questions

Where is the charge socket on an Omoda?

It is different on all three models: one in the centre of the front grille, one on the nearside rear, one on the offside rear. Check the model page before ordering a length.

Do all three Omodas charge at the same rate?

Yes, 6.6 kW from a single phase charger, which a 32A British charge point supplies in full.

Is 6.6 kW slow?

Not meaningfully. Nothing is lost to missing phases, so the gap to a 7.4 kW car is about twelve per cent.

Which model charges through the grille?

One of the three does, with the flap released from inside the car. The model page names it and explains what that means for cable length.

Which length should I buy?

Ten metres unless you have checked your own car, because the three models charge from three different places.
