    The charge port is in the grille, and opening it is unusual

    This one surprises people. The E5 charges from the centre of the front grille, and the flap is not released from outside: the owner manual instructs you to open the front compartment cover, then pull the charging port cover rope, at which point the flap slides up. Do that once and you will remember it.

    The charge socket is at the front of the car rather than on a flank, which changes the length calculation entirely: you measure from the nose to the charge point, and whether you park nose in or reverse becomes the whole question rather than a detail. The German technical catalogue records this car as charging from the driver side rear, which is simply wrong: four sources including Omoda own UK owner manual place the socket in the front grille, and one of them describes the release procedure. If you have been given a cable length on the assumption of a rear socket, measure again.

    What the car takes, from its own manual

    The UK owner manual publishes the onboard charger performance directly, which is rarer than it should be. One hardware variant is listed as a maximum of 6.6 kW on a single phase and 9.9 kW on three; another is listed at 11 kW maximum. Either way the single phase figure is 6.6 kW.

    The 6.6 kW rating is a single phase rating, which means it is also the rating you get at home. About 29 amps at 230 volts is comfortably within a domestic supply, so this car is as quick on a driveway as it is anywhere else in the country. The Australian right hand drive specification sheet for the same car says "6.6kW Single Phase / 10.3kW Three Phase" and an electric vehicle association fact sheet gives the current as 30 amps. Every source that separates the phases lands on 6.6 kW; none says 7.4. A bigger cable cannot change this, because the limit sits in the car rather than the lead.

    Battery, range and a figure that is often misread

    Omoda UK quotes 61 kWh and 267 miles WLTP. The owner manual power battery table lists two packs, 61.0 and 58.9 kWh total energy, which are two hardware variants rather than a gross and usable pair - an independent database presents them as "58.9 usable / 60.9 total", which conflates them. No usable figure is published for either.

    DC charging is best supported at 130 kW, with Omoda UK quoting thirty to eighty per cent in 28 minutes; Omoda Singapore says 80 kW. The arithmetic favours the higher figure: half of a 61 kWh pack in 28 minutes is a 65 kW average, which an 80 kW peak could only manage by holding 81 per cent of peak throughout. Vehicle-to-load is 3.3 kW, and the UK manual states that as a hard limit on connected appliances.

    Hours are worked from battery size against power drawn, plus a 13 per cent allowance for what is lost as heat, rounded to fifteen minutes. The miles column uses 3.5 miles per kWh, which holds up in winter as well as summer. Columns are the two published pack sizes. No usable figure exists, so these are total energy figures and real times run shorter.

    Eleven to twelve hours from genuinely empty on the figure that applies to a house. At 6.6 kW the E5 gains about 23 miles an hour, so a seven hour off peak window covers 160 miles of driving.

    Which length for an E5

    Measure from the charge point to the nose of the car. On a 4.40 metre SUV that is the best possible arrangement: park facing the wall box and five metres will usually reach comfortably.

    Ten metres covers reversed parking, a charge point set well back, or a shared drive. Take a tape measure to the run, inlet to charge point, and add a couple of metres before choosing.

    How these cables are built

    The lead is an IEC 62196-2 design, CE marked, IP55 sealed against a British winter and rated from -30C to +50C.

    Three pin construction follows IEC 62752, CE marked, IP67 rated, usable from -30C to +60C. It carries a two year manufacturer's warranty, ships free on next working day delivery, and can go back inside 30 days.

    6.6 kW. The UK owner manual states the single phase maximum itself, and the Australian right hand drive spec sheet gives the same figure with the current at 30 amps.

    Is it an 11 kW car?

    One hardware variant is rated 11 kW and another 9.9 kW, but both figures are three phase. On one British phase the answer is 6.6 kW either way.

    How fast is rapid charging?

    Omoda UK quotes thirty to eighty per cent in 28 minutes, which fits a 130 kW peak. One overseas Omoda site says 80 kW, which the published time does not support.
