Two models, both Type 2, both charging from the offside rear quarter, and both taking their full rated speed at a British house. One of them has no rapid charging socket at all.

What varies across the {M} range

The third column is what each car draws from a single phase British supply, which caps out near 7.4 kW on a 32 amp charge point.

The CX-60 plug-in hybrid takes 7.2 kW and the MX-30 either 6.6 or 7.2 kW depending on which version you have, the electric car or the rotary range extender. All of those are single phase figures, so nothing is lost at a house. The ratings mislead in one direction only. Single phase chargers deliver what they say here; three phase ones deliver a third of it, so the two end up closer than the numbers suggest. so nothing smaller than a 32 amp cable makes sense.

The CX-60 has no DC inlet, confirmed by omission across three separate specification sources rather than by one. That puts the whole charging job on the Type 2 lead, which is worth knowing if you are buying a used one without a cable in the boot.

The MX-30 R-EV is the curiosity of the pair: its generator is an 830 cc single rotor Wankel engine that never drives the wheels. For charging purposes what matters is the smaller battery and the slightly different charger, 7.2 kW against 6.6 on the pure electric car.

Getting the length right

Work from the flap to the charge point along the route the cable will take. Add slack. That is the whole method, and it beats ordering by the size of the vehicle.

Both charge from the offside rear, which on a nose-in driveway with a nearside charge point is the longest run there is. Ten metres is the sensible order; five works only where you reverse in beside the charge point.

Mazda charging cable questions

Can a Mazda CX-60 plug-in hybrid rapid charge?

No. There is no DC socket on the car at all, confirmed across three independent specification sources. The Type 2 lead is the only way to charge it.

Does a Mazda get its full rate at home?

Yes. The chargers are single phase, so a British 32A charge point supplies all of 6.6 or 7.2 kW.

What is the difference between the MX-30 and the MX-30 R-EV?

The R-EV is a range extender with a rotary generator and a smaller battery, and it charges at 7.2 kW against 6.6 for the electric car.
