    Charging from the nose

    This car charges from the front, not from a wing behind the doors. That makes the measurement simpler than usual - nose to wall box - and it means nosing into the space is what keeps the lead short.

    On the T03 the flap sits centrally in the front grille, which suits a car of 3.62 metres that will usually be nosed into a space. It also means the cable never has to be routed along the flank or round the back, which on the smallest car in this catalogue keeps five metres comfortably sufficient for most driveways.

    Nothing is lost on a British supply

    Here is the good news, and it is the opposite of the usual story. The charger is 6.6 kW and genuinely single phase, which is about 29 amps, so a British house supplies every watt of it. Nothing is lost to the phase count, and a 7 kW wall box simply runs at the pace the car sets.

    The German catalogue confirms the hardware: single phase only, with a full charge in 360 minutes on a 6.6 kW wall box. Thirty-seven point three kilowatt hours over six hours is 6.22 kW average, which is what a 6.6 kW charger does once the top of the pack tapers. Leapmotor own figure of about three and a half hours for thirty to eighty per cent points the same way.

    The extra amps would simply sit unused, so there is nothing to gain from a bigger cable. The 32A cable is what delivers the full 6.6 kW; a 16A lead carries 3.6 kW and would roughly double the time.

    Battery, range and what the T03 does not have

    The pack is 37.3 kWh gross with about 36.0 kWh usable, and Leapmotor UK quotes 165 miles WLTP combined. DC charging reaches 48 kW per Leapmotor and gives thirty to eighty per cent in 36 minutes, which on a battery this size is a genuinely short stop; the German data says 45 kW.

    One thing it does not offer is vehicle-to-load. Leapmotor lists that feature in its price guides for the B10 and B05 and not for the T03, and the independent data agrees. Worth knowing if you were hoping to run a kettle off it.

    The arithmetic is simple: kWh over kW, 13 per cent on top for losses, rounded to the nearest quarter hour. The range column assumes 3.5 miles per kWh rather than a summer best case. Working from 36 kWh usable, which is why the top row lands close to Leapmotor own six hour figure.

    Six hours from empty fits inside any overnight cheap-rate window. For a car whose whole purpose is short urban journeys, that is the right shape of number: you plug it in a couple of times a week and never think about it.

    Which length for a T03

    Measure from the charge point to the front of the car with it parked where it normally lives. There is no nearside or offside to think about, so the only question is whether you drive in or reverse in.

    Five metres is generous nose-in on a car under 3.7 metres long. Ten metres covers reversed parking or a charge point some way from the space. Park the car where it normally lives, walk the run with a tape, and buy the next size up from what you measure.

    How these cables are built

    It is a CE marked IEC 62196-2 cable, IP55 against the weather, rated to work between -30C and +50C.

    6.6 kW, which is its full rate because the charger is single phase. A complete charge takes about six hours.

    Do I need a 32A cable?

    Yes, to get all 6.6 kW. A 16A lead carries 3.6 kW and takes roughly twice as long.

    Can it rapid charge?

    Yes, at 48 kW, thirty to eighty per cent in 36 minutes.

    Does it have vehicle-to-load?

    No. Leapmotor lists that feature for the B10 and B05 but not for the T03.
