    It is not the same as the C10 Hybrid, and the figures get mixed up

    These two cars are easy to confuse and their specifications are genuinely different. The B10 Hybrid carries an 18.8 kWh battery; the C10 Hybrid carries 28.4 kWh. The B10 Hybrid is quoted at 53 miles of electric range against the C10 Hybrid 90, and its DC rate is 46 kW against 65.

    There is a second confusion worth heading off. The pure electric B10 has an 11 kW three phase charger and a 168 kW DC rate; this range extender version has 6.6 kW single phase and 46 kW. Same nameplate, same body, quite different charging. The cable is the same either way.

    How a range extender charges

    Worth understanding how this works, because it is not a conventional hybrid. The petrol engine is connected to a generator and to nothing else; the wheels are always turned by the electric motor. When the battery empties the engine starts and keeps the motor fed.

    Here the engine is a 1.5 litre four cylinder feeding a 50 kW generator, with a 160 kW motor driving the car. Total range is 559 miles from a 50 litre tank, at 21 grams of CO2 per kilometre, and the price is 31,495 pounds.

    At home it takes everything it can

    Unusually, there is no phase penalty to explain. The onboard charger is a 6.6 kW single phase unit drawing about 29 amps, which a British house delivers without difficulty. The limit is the car, and you reach it at home just as you would anywhere.

    Leapmotor quotes thirty to eighty per cent in one hour forty-five minutes on a wall box. Half of 18.8 kWh is 9.4 kWh, and over 1.75 hours that is 5.37 kW, consistent with a 6.6 kW ceiling and inconsistent with anything slower. The German catalogue publishes 360 minutes to full for this car, which would imply just 3.1 kW and appears to be a figure carried across from the much larger T03 battery, so we have not used it. Spending more on the lead changes nothing, as the car sets the rate.

    Leapmotor describes the 18.8 kWh pack as usable equalling total, the same unusual claim it makes for the pure electric B10.

    The arithmetic is simple: kWh over kW, 13 per cent on top for losses, rounded to the nearest quarter hour. Miles per hour is worked at a conservative 3.5 miles per kWh. Working from 18.8 kWh, which is the only figure published.

    Three and a half hours from flat, which is an evening rather than a night. With 53 miles of electric range that covers a normal commute twice over, and the generator handles anything longer without a stop.

    Which length for a B10 Hybrid

    Offside rear, sharing its body and socket position with the pure electric B10, which a UK source confirms as "back right". The car is 4.52 metres.

    Ten metres is the default with a rear socket. Five metres reaches where the car reverses in beside the charge point, and fifteen suits a long driveway. Measure from the charge point to the inlet as the car actually parks, then add two metres of slack.

    How these cables are built

    Built to IEC 62196-2 and CE marked, with an IP55 rating that covers rain and dust on an exposed driveway, and a working range of -30C to +50C.
