    One battery in Britain, two different chargers

    Every UK Megane E-Tech is the 60 kWh car. The 40 kWh EV40 was sold elsewhere in Europe and never came here, so there is no smaller battery to work out. Usable capacity is 60 kWh from a 65 kWh pack, and the WLTP figure runs from 280 to 292 miles depending on trim and wheels.

    What does change is the charger. Cars from launch in 2022 up to around the May 2025 facelift left the factory with a 22 kW three phase charger as standard. From the facelift the standard unit is 11 kW and 22 kW became an option that not every car has. Renault publishes no VIN break, so the honest answer is to check your own spec sheet if the difference matters to you.

    When the three phase cable is worth buying

    Three phase ratings describe a supply most British houses do not have, so the working figure at home is 7.4 kW. At a house the 22 kW car and the 11 kW car both draw 7.4 kW and finish together, so for home charging the single phase 32A lead is the buy.

    The 22 kW cars are different at a public AC post. Plenty of UK car parks have 22 kW three phase points, and an early Megane with a three phase cable will take the full 22 kW there, filling the pack in about three and a quarter hours instead of nine and three quarters. That is a genuine reason to own the three phase lead, and it is rare: most cars on this site cannot use one anywhere.

    The arithmetic is simple: kWh over kW, 13 per cent on top for losses, rounded to the nearest quarter hour. Miles per hour is worked at a conservative 3.5 miles per kWh. Renault's own 15 to 80 per cent figures are six hours on 7.4 kW and four hours ten on 11 kW, which lines up with the table.

    DC rapid charging is 130 kW across the whole range and is not trim dependent, so a Megane on a motorway is never short of options. The Type 2 lead is for the driveway and the car park.

    Which length for a Megane

    Renault UK puts the inlet on the front right of the car. On a right hand drive Megane that is the offside, the driver's side, and it is worth being clear about because Renault's own manual describes it as the passenger side. The manual is written from a left hand drive point of view, where right and passenger are the same thing. They are not here.

    The Megane is 4.2 metres long. Nose in with the charge point on your right and 5 metres is comfortable. Nose in with the wall box on the left, or reverse onto the drive, and the lead has to come across the car, which is when 10 metres earns its money. The measurement that counts is the one taken with the car in its usual spot, plus a margin for the slack the lead needs.

    What cable does a Megane E-Tech need?

    Type 2 to Type 2. For home charging buy 32A single phase. If your car is a pre-2025 build with the 22 kW charger and you use 22 kW public AC posts, the three phase version is worth the extra.

    Does my Megane have the 22 kW charger?

    Cars built from 2022 to around the May 2025 facelift had it as standard. Later cars have 11 kW as standard with 22 kW as an option. Renault has not published a hard cut-off, so check your own spec if it matters.

    How long does a Megane take to charge at home?

    Just under ten hours from empty at 7.4 kW on the 60 kWh pack. A seven hour overnight window is worth roughly 180 miles.

    Which side is the charge port on?

    The front offside, on the right of the nose, which is the driver's side on a UK car. Renault's manual calls it the passenger side because it is written for left hand drive markets.
