Lexus NX 450h+ EV Charging Cable

A plug-in hybrid with nowhere else to go

The NX 450h+ carries 18.1 kWh gross and 42 to 46 miles of WLTP electric range, which is a proper commuting battery. What it does not have is any DC capability at all: no CCS, no CHAdeMO, nothing. Nothing on this car takes DC. There is no rapid socket to fall back on, so the Type 2 lead is not an accessory you might use, it is the only route electricity ever takes into the battery. Buy a used one without a cable in the boot and it is a petrol car until you do.

We can be confident about that rather than merely unable to find it, because the facelift Lexus announced in September 2026 lists DC charging as a brand new feature. You do not add something that was already there.

Nothing lost to the supply, which is not always the case

The 6.6 kW onboard charger is single phase. A car quoted at 11 kW or 22 kW is quoting a three phase figure, and a single phase British house will give it 7.4 kW. The NX 450h+ sidesteps all of that: 6.6 kW is a single phase figure, so a British house delivers the car's full rated speed with nothing lost to the supply. Lexus quotes as little as two and a half hours from a wall box, and that is a real figure rather than a three phase one.

A 32A cable is therefore worth having here, because the car genuinely draws 6.6 kW and a 16A lead would cut that to 3.7 and roughly double the time.

How long a full charge takes

Hours come from dividing the pack by the power the car actually draws, with 13 per cent added for losses. The table uses the 18.1 kWh gross figure because Lexus publishes no usable capacity, so the real times will be slightly shorter. Our calculation and Lexus's two and a half hours agree closely.

Two and a half hours for 40-odd miles of electric range is the sort of number that changes how a plug-in gets used. It is an after-work charge rather than an overnight one, which is why the cable being long enough to reach easily matters more on this car than on most.

Which length for an NX 450h+

The port is at the rear on the 2022 to 2026 car. We are not going to tell you which side, because Lexus does not publish it and the only sources that state a side are cable retailers repeating each other. Have a look before you order.

The NX is 4.66 metres long. A rear port means reversing in towards the charge point is the easy case, and if it is on the same side, 5 metres will do. Nose in and the cable runs the length of the car, so 10 metres. If you are buying the facelift announced for 2027, note the port moves to the front. Measure from the charge point to the inlet as the car actually parks, then add two metres of slack.

How these cables are built

Built to IEC 62196-2 and CE marked, with an IP55 rating that covers rain and dust on an exposed driveway, and a working range of -30C to +50C.

Three pin construction follows IEC 62752, CE marked, IP67 rated, usable from -30C to +60C. The manufacturer warrants it for two years, delivery in the UK is free and next working day, and returns run to 30 days.

What cable does an NX 450h+ need?

A 32A Type 2 to Type 2 lead. The 6.6 kW charger is single phase, so the car draws its full rated speed at a British house and a 16A cable would roughly double the time.

Can an NX 450h+ use a rapid charger?

No. The 2022 to 2026 car has no DC socket of any kind, so the Type 2 cable is the only way to charge it. The 2027 facelift adds DC charging for the first time.

How long does it take to charge?

Lexus quotes as little as two and a half hours from a wall box, and our own calculation on the 18.1 kWh pack agrees. From a three pin socket allow about seven and a half hours.
