Two Compasses, and they are not variations of each other
The Compass 4xe is the plug-in hybrid on the older platform, with an 11.4 kWh battery and around 29 miles of electric range. The Compass Electric, on sale in the UK from late September 2025, is a new car with 74 or 102 kWh, 311 to 377 miles and 160 kW rapid charging. A new generation Compass e-Hybrid plug-in sits alongside them at 50 miles.
All of them take the same 32A single phase Type 2 cable. Everything else about how they charge differs, starting with whether rapid charging exists at all.
The 4xe cannot rapid charge, at all
Nothing on this car takes DC. There is no rapid socket to fall back on, so the Type 2 lead is not an accessory you might use, it is the only route electricity ever takes into the battery. Buy a used one without a cable in the boot and it is a petrol car until you do.
Three independent sources agree on the 4xe: the German technical catalogue lists a Type 2 inlet with no DC row at all, the Stellantis launch release describes only AC charging, and Jeep UK's own 4xe page offers a Mode 2 and a Mode 3 cable and nothing else.
The new electric Compass is the opposite case, with 160 kW DC on both battery sizes: the 74 kWh car averages 90 kW across ten to eighty per cent for a 36 minute stop, and the 102 kWh Electric 4xe averages 150 kW for 28 minutes.
What each one draws at home
The 4xe is a single phase 7.4 kW car with no three phase variant, so a British house is no compromise: Jeep UK quotes a full charge in one hour forty. German data gives 7.2 kW and 96 minutes, and both work out at about 7 kW delivered.
One claim to set aside: the 4xe is sometimes said to have a 3.7 kW base specification. In the UK the base provision is a Mode 2 three pin cable up to 3 kW and a 2.3 kW wall box, which is a cable distinction rather than a different charger.
The electric Compass has an 11 kW three phase charger. On paper 11 kW, in a driveway 7.4 kW, and the difference is the supply rather than the car or the cable. A 32A single phase cable therefore carries everything the car can take at home, and nothing further is worth paying for.
A naming quirk on the electric car
Worth knowing if you are comparing figures. The Compass Electric "74 kWh" has 80.0 kWh gross and 73.7 usable, so the name follows the usable figure. The Electric 4xe "102 kWh" has 102.0 gross and 96.1 usable, so the name follows the gross one. Two cars in a line named on different bases.

Figures are calculated rather than quoted: battery divided by power, 13 per cent for losses, quarter hour rounding. The range column is deliberately cautious, at 3.5 miles per kWh. Columns are the 4xe at 11.4 kWh and the electric Compass at 73.7 kWh usable. The Electric 4xe with 96.1 kWh usable takes about a third longer than the second column.
The two ends of that table are the two kinds of car in one badge: the plug-in hybrid is an evening, the electric one is a night. Both cost a fraction of petrol per mile on an off peak tariff.
Which length for a Compass
Stellantis states the 4xe position in vehicle terms rather than driver terms, which is helpful: the charge port is at the rear on the vehicle's left side, with a push-open cover. That is the nearside rear on a UK car, and the new electric Compass follows the same arrangement.
Both cars are around 4.4 to 4.5 metres, so ten metres is the sensible default with a rear socket, and five metres works only where you reverse in beside the charge point. Work it out from where the car genuinely sits, not where it could sit, and leave slack.

Jeep Compass charging cable questions
Can a Jeep Compass 4xe use a rapid charger?
No. It has no DC socket at all, confirmed by the technical catalogue, the Stellantis launch material and Jeep UK's own charging page. The Type 2 cable is the only way to charge it.
How long does a Compass 4xe take to charge?
Jeep UK quotes one hour forty minutes on a 7.4 kW wall box. German data gives 96 minutes for the same car at 7.2 kW.
Is the 4xe limited to 3.7 kW?
No. It is a 7.4 kW single phase car. The 3.7 kW figure sometimes quoted confuses the supplied cables and the entry level wall box with the car's own charger.
Does the new electric Compass take the same cable?
Yes, a 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 lead. Its 11 kW charger needs three phases to show its full rating, so at home it draws 7.4 kW like the 4xe.
