The 4xe badge means something different on this car
Worth reading before you order anything. Jeep uses 4xe for its plug-in hybrids on the Renegade and Compass, but the Avenger 4xe is not a plug-in hybrid at all. It is a 48 volt hybrid with all wheel drive, a 136 horsepower petrol engine and two small electric motors, and it has no charging socket of any kind. Nor do the Avenger petrol or the Avenger e-Hybrid.
Only the Avenger Full-Electric takes a cable. That is one model out of four wearing the same nameplate, which is an unusually good way to buy the wrong thing.
What the electric one does
Citroen fits a 7.4 kW single phase charger as standard and sells an 11 kW three phase unit as an option. The option is for markets where three phases arrive at the building; at a British house it gives the same 7.4 kW the standard charger already does.
The official handbook is unusually clear about it: the onboard charger is available with 7.4 kW single phase and 11 kW three phase depending on version and market, and it publishes all three times - about sixteen hours at 3.7 kW, about eight hours at 7.4 kW, and about six hours at 11 kW. On a British house the answer is the 7.4 kW row whichever unit is fitted, so a 32A single phase cable is the correct buy on any Avenger Electric. The car is the bottleneck, not the cable, so the extra current goes unused.
DC charging is 100 kW, with about 24 minutes from twenty to eighty per cent per the handbook, so long journeys are covered by the rapid network rather than by this lead.
Battery and range, with both figures published
Jeep is one of the few manufacturers to print gross and net side by side in the handbook's technical specifications: 54 kWh gross and 51 kWh net, on a fluid cooled and heated lithium ion pack at 350 volts. WLTP range is up to 248 miles, and the current Jeep UK page quotes 248 to 241 miles depending on specification.
That candour is worth noting because it is rare. Most plug-in hybrids and a fair number of electric cars publish one unlabelled figure and leave you guessing which it is.

Hours are worked from battery size against power drawn, plus a 13 per cent allowance for what is lost as heat, rounded to fifteen minutes. The range column assumes 3.5 miles per kWh rather than a summer best case. Working from the 51 kWh net figure Jeep publishes. Our top row is close to Jeep's own eight hour claim at 7.4 kW.
Eight hours from empty fits inside a single overnight window with room to spare. At 7.4 kW the Avenger gains about 26 miles an hour, which for a car of this size is most of a working week's commuting in one night.
Which length for an Avenger
The socket is on the nearside rear flank, confirmed for a UK car. The Avenger is 4.08 metres long, which is short enough that a rear socket is not a serious problem.
Five metres works where you reverse in or where the charge point sits toward the rear of the bay on the nearside. Ten metres is the safe general choice for a car that sometimes parks nose in. Pace it out from the socket to the flap with the car parked as it always is, then allow a little extra.

Jeep Avenger charging cable questions
Does a Jeep Avenger 4xe need a charging cable?
No. The Avenger 4xe is a 48 volt hybrid with no charging socket, unlike the Renegade 4xe and Compass 4xe which are plug-in hybrids. Only the Avenger Full-Electric plugs in.
What cable does the Avenger Electric need?
A 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Whether your car has the 7.4 kW single phase charger or the 11 kW three phase one, a British house gives it 7.4 kW.
How long does it take to charge?
Jeep quotes about eight hours at 7.4 kW, sixteen at 3.7 kW, and six at 11 kW on three phases. A 100 kW rapid charger does twenty to eighty per cent in about 24 minutes.
