Toyota tells you exactly what to buy, which is rare
The UK press release reads: "Toyota recommends the combination of a Type 2 Mode 3 32A cable (provided as standard) and a wallbox unit", and with those, "recharging can be accomplished in about 2.5 hours, with no impact on the customer domestic power supply".
That last clause is the useful part. It confirms the 6.6 kW charger is single phase and designed around an ordinary British house rather than an industrial connection. A 6.6 kW single phase charger looks modest next to an 11 kW rating until you remember what happens to an 11 kW rating on a British driveway. It becomes 7.4 kW. Toyota's figure does not shrink at all, so the real difference at home is small enough to ignore.
No rapid charging on the 2021 to 2025 car
This car has no DC inlet whatsoever, which puts the whole charging job on the Type 2 lead. A motorway rapid is simply not available to it, and a car that arrives from a dealer with no cable cannot be charged at all until one turns up.
Owners confirm it from the driveway: the socket is a plain Type 2 with no DC pins below it. Nothing in Toyota UK material gives a DC figure for this generation.
The 2026 car changes a great deal, and not all of it for the better at home
The sixth generation moves to a 22.7 kWh battery, 11 kW AC, 50 kW DC and 71 to 78 miles of WLTP electric range. On paper that is a substantial upgrade.
Two caveats. The 50 kW DC charger is standard on Excel and GR SPORT only and not fitted to Icon or Design, which Toyota promotional material does not mention. And the 11 kW AC rating is a three phase one, so at a British house it gives about 7.4 kW, barely twelve per cent faster than the old 6.6 kW car. Toyota own claim of "twice as fast, around three hours for a 10 to 80 per cent charge" does not add up at a genuine 11 kW, where that charge would take about an hour and a half. Three hours fits a single phase draw.
Battery and range on the 2021 to 2025 car
18.1 kWh gross, 96 modules at 355.2 volts nominal, with 46 miles of WLTP electric range. Toyota does not publish a usable figure. A 7.5 metre Mode 2 lead for a 10 amp domestic supply was also standard, taking about seven and a half hours.

The arithmetic is simple: kWh over kW, 13 per cent on top for losses, rounded to the nearest quarter hour. The range column assumes 3.5 miles per kWh rather than a summer best case. Worked from the 18.1 kWh gross figure, so real times run slightly shorter. Toyota own claim is about two and a half hours.
Which length for a RAV4 plug-in
Toyota names the position itself, twice in the same release: the charging socket is on the rear right wing, with a flap that automatically locks and unlocks with the vehicle doors. On a British car that is the offside rear.
You will find the socket on the nearside rear wing, exactly where you would look for a petrol cap. It is the pavement side of the car, which helps at a kerbside charge point and means the cable run depends on which way round you park. The car is 4.6 metres, so ten metres is the default and five works reversing in with the charge point close. Park the car where it normally lives, walk the run with a tape, and buy the next size up from what you measure.
