You get all 6.6 kW at home, and that is worth more than it sounds
The number on the spec sheet is the number you get, which is not true of most cars on this list. Because the charger is single phase, a British supply satisfies it completely. Toyota quotes its charge times against an ordinary 32 amp home wall box for exactly that reason.
An independent UK review puts the practical consequence neatly: charging speeds are up to 6.6 kW, so plugged into a standard 7 kW wall box the battery is charged in under three hours. Another gives about two and a half hours. On a 13.6 kWh pack the arithmetic supports both.
One phrase in Toyota own literature that misleads buyers
Toyota UK writes that a full charge takes under two and a half hours "using the optional tri-phase cable". Read as English that suggests you need a three phase supply, and buyers have concluded exactly that. You do not.
The phrase is a translation artefact for an ordinary three phase wired Type 2 lead, the kind almost every Mode 3 cable is. Toyota Europe own wording for the same car drops it entirely: a 6.6 kW onboard charger recharges the battery from zero to 100 per cent in under two and a half hours. No mention of phases, because none are needed. One warning about the published paperwork, because it has misled a lot of people. Specification tables are assembled from templates, and a row that does not apply to a particular car is sometimes filled in anyway rather than left blank. When a figure in a table contradicts the arithmetic, the arithmetic wins.
There is no rapid charging socket
No part of this car accepts DC, so rapid charging is off the table entirely. Charging happens through the Type 2 socket or it does not happen, and that makes the cable the one accessory the car genuinely cannot manage without.
A UK review says it in one line: there is no rapid charging option, so this is very much a plug-in for overnight top ups. Nothing in Toyota UK or Toyota Europe material gives a DC figure, because there is nothing to give.
The cable is not always in the boot
Worth knowing before you take delivery of a used one. The Type 2 Mode 3 lead is listed as standard equipment on the plug-in grades but is not standard on the lowest of them, and two UK reviews flag it as a cost extra. What you are guaranteed is a Mode 2 three pin lead, which charges the car at 2.3 kW and takes most of a day.
Battery and range
Toyota publishes 13.6 kWh gross and does not publish a usable figure. WLTP electric range is up to 41 miles, or 66 kilometres. Combined with the petrol engine the car is a genuinely low emissions proposition for short journeys, which is the point of a plug-in hybrid with this much electric range.

Those times come from dividing the pack by the delivered power and adding 13 per cent for losses, then rounding to the quarter hour. Miles per hour is worked at 3.5 miles per kWh, a figure that survives a cold morning. Toyota publishes gross capacity only, so this works from 13.6 kWh and real times run slightly shorter.
Under two and a half hours to fill from empty is an evening, not a night, which for a car with over forty electric miles makes daily electric running entirely practical.
Which length, and an honest gap in our research
We have not been able to establish the charge port position from a source we trust. Toyota UK press pack, the brochure, the European release and the owner forums are all silent on it, and the American Toyota answer refers to a different car entirely, the 2027 C-HR battery electric with a NACS port. We would rather say so than guess.
Practically, on a 4.36 metre crossover, ten metres removes the question. If you can see your own car, measure from the socket to where your charge point sits and five metres may well do. Work it out from where the car genuinely sits, not where it could sit, and leave slack.

Do I need a three phase cable for a C-HR plug-in?
No. Toyota own phrase "optional tri-phase cable" is a translation artefact for an ordinary Mode 3 lead. The charger is 6.6 kW single phase and a British 7 kW wall box supplies all of it.
Can it rapid charge?
No. There is no DC inlet on the C-HR plug-in hybrid.
How long does a full charge take?
Under two and a half hours from empty on a 7 kW home charge point, for a 13.6 kWh battery.
Is a Type 2 cable included with the car?
Not on every grade. The lowest plug-in grade does not include it as standard, so check before you rely on one being in the boot.
