It rapid charges, which most plug-in hybrids do not
Worth knowing before your next long journey. The Discovery Sport plug-in hybrid has a combined CCS inlet and accepts up to 32 kW on direct current, giving nought to eighty per cent in about half an hour. Jaguar Land Rover said so when it launched the car, and the German technical catalogue records the same figure.
That puts it in a small minority. Most plug-in hybrids have no DC socket at all, which means a flat battery stays flat until you find a Type 2 point and wait. Here a motorway stop genuinely refills it, which changes what the car is good for on a long day.
At home it is simpler than most electric cars
The good news is the absence of a catch. Land Rover specifies a single phase 7 kW charger, not an 11 kW three phase one, so the quoted charge time already describes a normal house.
The numbers back that up. Land Rover quotes nought to eighty per cent in one hour twenty-four minutes on a 7 kW wall box for the P300e, and two hours twelve minutes to a full charge on the later P270e. Twelve kilowatt hours over one point four hours is 6.96 kW, which is a 7 kW charger doing exactly what it says.
One figure to disregard: German data lists the AC range as starting at 2.3 kW, which looks like a low single phase ceiling. It is not - German network rules cap domestic single phase connections at 4.6 kW, and that restriction does not exist here. A British 32 amp wall box gives the car its full 7 kW. No cable can lift that figure: the onboard charger decides it.
Two versions, and a battery figure that is not settled
The P300e ran from 2020 to 2023 with a 15 kWh pack of which 12.17 kWh was usable, quoted at 34 miles of electric range. The P270e replaced it for 2024 with 11.975 kWh usable and 36 to 38 miles, which is more range from slightly less battery.
What Land Rover no longer prints is the gross figure. Its 2024 documents used a clear "total, usable" format; the 2026 ones give one number. The German catalogue offers 12.7 kWh gross for the same pack, which cannot be reconciled with the earlier 15 kWh, so the honest position is that the usable figure is solid and the gross one is not.

The arithmetic is simple: kWh over kW, 13 per cent on top for losses, rounded to the nearest quarter hour. The range column is deliberately cautious, at 3.5 miles per kWh. Columns are the P270e at 11.975 kWh usable and the P300e at 12.17. Land Rover own figures are two hours twelve minutes and one hour twenty-four to eighty per cent respectively.
Two hours to fill the battery, and a three pin lead does it in six hours forty-two minutes by Land Rover own reckoning. That makes this an easy car to run on electricity for the school run and the commute, with the engine kept for the motorway.
Which length for a Discovery Sport
Land Rover describes the position in a way that survives left and right hand drive: the charge port flap is on the rear fender, on the opposite side of the vehicle to the fuel filler. On a UK car that puts it at the nearside rear, which is the kerb side, though we should say that the only source stating a side outright is written from a left hand drive car.
The Discovery Sport is 4.6 metres with a rear socket, so ten metres is the sensible default and five metres works where the car reverses in beside its charge point. Work it out from where the car genuinely sits, not where it could sit, and leave slack.
