    Four variants and what separates them

    The e-SpaceTourer comes in M and XL body lengths with 50 or 75 kWh batteries. The M 50 kWh was on sale from November 2020 to January 2024, quoted at 137 miles with Citroen claiming up to 143. The 75 kWh cars arrived in May 2024, with the M version at 216 to 218 miles. Usable capacities are 46.3 and 69 kWh from 50 and 75 kWh gross packs.

    Rapid charging is around 100 kW on both. The 50 kWh version peaks at 101 kW with a 74 kW average and does eighty per cent in half an hour; Citroen quotes nought to eighty per cent in 32 minutes for the 75 kWh. Whichever you have, the AC side is identical and the cable is the same.

    A useful accident in the public data

    As standard the car takes 7.4 kW from one phase. An 11 kW three phase charger is available as a paid extra and makes no difference whatever at a normal house, because it needs a supply a house does not have.

    There is a neat illustration of the phase problem in how this vehicle is catalogued. One well known database headlines 11 kW AC on its mainland European pages for the e-SpaceTourer and 7.4 kW on its UK pages, for the identical vehicle with identical hardware. That is not a contradiction, it is the database telling each audience what it will actually get. Britain wires houses on one phase; much of Europe does not.

    Citroen's own UK wording says the same thing more quietly, quoting a full charge in seven hours 40 minutes on a 7.4 kW wall box alongside an 11 kW figure that requires three phases to appear. The ceiling is the car, so a heavier cable finishes at the same time.

    Where the socket is on a vehicle this size

    The socket is set into the nearside front three quarter panel near the wheel, not at the rear as the shape of the vehicle might lead you to expect. Park nose first with the charge point on your left and the run is surprisingly short.

    The M body is 4.96 metres and the XL 5.31, so this could easily have been a fifteen metre cable problem. It is not, because the inlet is at the front. It is the single most helpful design decision on the vehicle from a cable point of view, and it is shared with the ë-Dispatch that it is built alongside.

    Figures are calculated rather than quoted: battery divided by power, 13 per cent for losses, quarter hour rounding. The range column is deliberately cautious, at 3.5 miles per kWh. Columns are the 50 kWh variants at 46.3 kWh usable and the 75 kWh at 69. Our seven hours for the smaller pack matches Citroen's own seven hours 40 minutes closely enough to trust the method.

    An eight seat vehicle carrying people rather than boxes tends to do predictable daily mileage, which suits overnight charging on a cheap tariff very well. The battery is warranted for eight years or 100,000 miles to seventy per cent of capacity.

    Which length for an e-SpaceTourer

    Five metres is genuinely viable if the vehicle noses into its space and the charge point is on the left, because the socket is right at the front. That is worth checking before spending on a longer lead.

    Ten metres is the safer general answer, especially on the 5.31 metre XL or where the vehicle has to reverse in. Fifteen metres is for a charge point well away from where an eight seater can actually be parked. Take a tape measure to the run, inlet to charge point, and add a couple of metres before choosing.

    How these cables are built

    Standards are IEC 62196-2 and CE, protection is IP55, and the specified working range runs -30C to +50C.

    Three pin leads are made to IEC 62752, CE marked and IP67 sealed, with a -30C to +60C specification. Warranty is two years from the manufacturer, delivery free next working day, returns accepted for 30 days.

    What cable does an e-SpaceTourer need?

    A 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable, on all four variants. Five metres can work thanks to the front socket, but ten is the safer choice on the XL.

    Where is the charge socket?

    Nearside front three quarter panel, near the front wheel. Not at the rear, which is where the vehicle's shape leads most people to look.

    How long does an e-SpaceTourer take to charge?

    Citroen quotes seven hours 40 minutes for a full charge on a 7.4 kW wall box. The 75 kWh version takes proportionally longer, around eleven hours from empty.

    Why do some sources say 11 kW?

    Because they are describing a three phase supply, which most of mainland Europe has and almost no British house does. The same database that says 11 kW on its European pages says 7.4 kW on its UK ones for the same vehicle.
