Which {M} cable you need, in one table

Find your model in the table and the last column is your answer. Each row links to that car's own page, where the charge port position, the battery sizes and the charging times are set out in full.

Three Tiggo Super Hybrids, all Type 2, all on the same 6.6 kW charger. The interesting part of this range is not the rate but where the socket is, which is not the same on all three.

How the models differ, and where it matters

British homes run one phase, so the useful number is what the car takes from it rather than its rated maximum.

On charging rate, nothing. The Tiggo 7, Tiggo 8 and Tiggo 9 Super Hybrids all run a 6.6 kW onboard charger drawing roughly 29 amps at 230 volts, which is inside what a single phase home charge point supplies. That means the wall box waits on the car rather than the other way round, which is the reverse of the usual problem and a genuinely good position to be in. It is worth resisting the instinct that bigger is better. A single phase charger is fully used on a British supply, which is not true of the three phase alternative.

One thing not to carry over from another model in this range: the charging position. It varies, and the individual pages name it. Two of the three charge from the offside rear quarter and one from the nearside rear flank with the fuel filler on the opposite side. On a brand this new that distinction is not well documented elsewhere, which is why each model page states it.

These are plug-in hybrids with substantial electric range rather than token batteries, so the cable does real work rather than sitting in the boot. Charging nightly is what makes the brochure fuel figures achievable at all.

One caution about the badge. Super Hybrid is Chery's name for the plug-in system, and the group also sells conventional hybrids and petrol cars that look much the same from outside and have no charging socket anywhere. If the car does not say Super Hybrid it will not take a lead from this page.

Working out the length

For length, the honest advice is to take a tape measure to the gap between your charge point and where the car will sit. Five metres is often enough; ten metres is what most driveways want; the longer leads exist for garage mounted units and awkward layouts.

With two models on one flank and one on the other, ten metres is the safe order across the range unless you have checked your own car.

How the cables are made

Whatever your car, the cable is the same underneath. Tinned copper cores, IP67 rated connectors moulded rather than assembled, a cold flexible outer sheath, two years of warranty and free next working day delivery.

Its sister brands are the Omoda range and the Jaecoo range.

Every Type 2 Chery EV on this page takes the same Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable; pick the length on that page. Older Type 1 cars use the Type 1 to Type 2 charging cable. All of them sit under universal cables.

Chery charging cable questions

Do all three Tiggo Super Hybrids charge at the same rate?

Yes, 6.6 kW from a single phase charger, which a British house supplies in full.

Is 6.6 kW slow?

Not in practice. It is a single phase figure, so nothing is lost at a British house, and the gap to a 7.4 kW car is about twelve per cent.

Where is the charge socket on a Chery?

That varies by model here. The individual pages state the flank and the end, which is what decides the length you need.

Do I need a 32A cable?

Yes, to reach the full 6.6 kW. A 16A lead would hold the car to about 3.7 kW.

Which length should I buy?

Ten metres is the safe order across the range, because the socket is not on the same flank on all three models.
