    Almost every car we write these pages for charges from the nearside, because European makers put the inlet where the fuel filler used to be and British cars inherited a left hand drive layout. The G6 does not: its port is on the offside rear quarter, confirmed across three separate model year entries and by UK road test data.

    On a typical British driveway with the car nose in and a wall box on the house wall, that puts the socket on the far side. If you are replacing a Stellantis or Volkswagen Group car with this one and keeping the same charge point, expect to need a longer cable than you did before. We would rather tell you that now than after delivery.

    Eight hundred volts, and 7.4 kW at home

    The DC figures on this car are genuinely impressive and have nothing to do with your driveway. AC charging is 11 kW three phase across every trim, with no standard and optional split, which means 7.4 kW on a British single phase supply. An owner puts it neatly: with three phases the car clearly charges at up to 11 kW, and on one phase it charges up to 7 kW.

    The practical consequence of a big battery and a 7.4 kW ceiling is that a full charge from empty takes twelve and three quarter to fourteen hours depending on version. Plug in nightly and it never matters; wait until the battery is low and it becomes a two night job.

    DC figures that must be read with a model year attached

    Four numbers circulate for this car and all four are correct for some version of it. The 2024 to 2025 Standard Range peaks at 215 kW and the Long Range at 280. The 2026 facelift lifts those to 382 and 451 kW, with ten to eighty per cent in twelve minutes.

    Worth keeping in perspective: no UK public charger exceeds 400 kW on a single connector, and the measured ten to eighty per cent average on the 2024 Long Range is around 180 kW rather than its 280 kW peak. It is still among the fastest charging cars you can buy here.

    Batteries, and a chemistry change at the facelift

    The 2024 to 2025 car had a 66 kWh LFP Standard Range with 65.34 usable and an 87.5 kWh NMC Long Range. From the 2026 facelift both packs are LFP: 68.5 kWh with 67.8 usable, and 80.8 kWh with 80 usable. XPENG own material confirms the change; some reference sites still describe the larger pack as NMC and have not caught up.

    WLTP range is 270 to 354 miles on the earlier car and 292 to 326 on the facelift. LFP chemistry tolerates routine charging to 100 per cent, which suits an overnight tariff.

    How long a full charge takes

    Hours come from dividing the pack by the power the car actually draws, with 13 per cent added for losses. The range column assumes 3.5 miles per kWh rather than a summer best case. The two figures cover the facelift Standard Range and the earlier Long Range.

    Which length for a G6

    The car is 4.75 metres with the socket at the offside rear. On a nose in driveway with a nearside charge point that is the longest possible run, so ten metres is our default recommendation and fifteen is worth considering for a garage mounted unit.

    Five metres only makes sense where the charge point sits on the offside and you reverse in. Choose on the real distance from inlet to charge point, not the distance on the drawing, and never buy it tight.

    How these cables are built

    Construction is to IEC 62196-2 with CE marking, IP55 weather protection and a -30C to +50C operating range.

    Which side is the charge socket on an XPENG G6?

    Offside rear quarter, on the driver side. That is the opposite flank to most cars sold here, so check your cable reach before ordering.

    How fast does a G6 charge at home?

    About 7.4 kW. The 11 kW rating is three phase and a British house has one phase, so a full charge takes twelve to fourteen hours depending on version.

    Is it really a 451 kW charging car?

    The 2026 facelift Long Range is, at its peak. Earlier cars peak at 215 or 280 kW, and the real ten to eighty per cent average is lower than any peak figure.

    Can I charge it to 100 per cent every night?

    Yes on an LFP pack, which is every 2026 car and the earlier Standard Range. LFP chemistry is designed for routine full charges.
