    Three batteries, one cable

    Rear-Wheel Drive at roughly 60 kWh usable, Long Range at about 75, and the Premium Long Range AWD and Performance at about 79. All of them accept the same 11 kW on AC, so nothing about the cable changes with the badge.

    That 11 kW headline needs three phases behind the socket. One phase, which is what a house gets, means 7.4 kW. The 32A single phase lead is therefore the one that matters at home, and it is also what you carry for untethered public posts.

    Hours are worked from battery size against power drawn, plus a 13 per cent allowance for what is lost as heat, rounded to fifteen minutes. Tesla does not publish battery capacities, so the kWh figures here are independent estimates and the times are close rather than exact. Ranges run to 314, 387 and 391 miles WLTP across the three. Miles per hour is worked at a conservative 3.5 miles per kWh.

    Which length for a Model Y

    The port sits in the left rear light cluster, the nearside, and the Model Y is 4.8 metres long. Back it onto a drive with the charge point on that side and 5 metres is comfortable. Anything else, nose in parking especially, and the cable has to come the length of the car, so 10 metres is the buy.

    Work it out from where the car genuinely sits, not where it could sit, and leave slack. The 15 and 20 metre leads exist for the harder layouts: a communal bay you cannot choose, a garage standing away from the house, or a wallbox sited near the road at the top of a long drive.

    What cable does a Tesla Model Y use?

    A Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Buy 32A single phase for home charging: the car accepts 11 kW on three phase, and 7.4 kW is what a single phase British supply delivers.

    How long is a full home charge on a Model Y?

    Starting from flat at 7.4 kW, roughly nine and a quarter hours for the 60 kWh Rear-Wheel Drive and about twelve for the 79 kWh cars. Seven hours on a night tariff adds around 180 miles whichever you have.

    Where does the Model Y plug in?

    The rear nearside, inside the left tail light cluster. Tesla uses the same left side position across its range, and it does not mirror on a right hand drive car.

    Is the three phase cable worth it?

    Only for a workplace or a genuine three phase feed. At 11 kW a 79 kWh Model Y takes about eight hours instead of twelve. On a home supply the three phase cable gives you the same 7.4 kW as the single phase one.
