Geely says the quiet part out loud
Read 11 kW as a three phase figure. A home charge point on a single phase hands the car 7.4 kW. The 32A single phase cable covers it in full. Anything quoted quicker elsewhere is a three phase figure rather than a home one.
What makes the EX5 unusual is that Geely's own press office frames it correctly rather than hiding behind the headline. It describes the 11 kW charger as standard and then adds that customers with three phase electricity supplies and 11 kW wall boxes can achieve even faster charging. That is a manufacturer telling you, in writing, that the 11 kW figure is conditional on a supply most homes do not have.
The numbers behind it: 9 hours 45 minutes to full on 7.4 kW single phase against 6 hours 30 on 11 kW three phase, on the 60 kWh car. A right hand drive market fact sheet independently gives the single phase case as 7 kW at 32 amps.
The socket is in the right place
The charge flap is on the offside front wing, forward of the driver's door, and this is confirmed on a right hand drive car rather than translated from a European left hand drive spec, so it is not mirrored for Britain.
For a 4.6 metre SUV that is genuinely good news. A vehicle this size with a rear socket would be a ten metre cable proposition on most driveways; with the inlet at the front, nosing into a bay with the wall box on your right keeps the run short. It is the single most useful thing to know about charging an EX5.
Two batteries, and an unusually generous feature list
SE and Pro carry 60.22 kWh with 267 miles quoted; Max and Ultra carry 68.39 kWh for 280 miles. Geely labels both figures explicitly as usable, though its own owner's manual nameplate arithmetic of 376 volts by 160 amp hours lands on the same number, which usually indicates a gross figure. The gross and usable split is therefore not firmly established.
DC charging is 120 kW on the smaller pack and up to 135 kW on the larger per Geely UK, with a ten to eighty stop of 28 to 30 minutes. Both vehicle-to-load and vehicle-to-vehicle are standard across the range, which is rare, although Geely UK publishes no kW figure for either on the British car. Prices run 31,990 to 38,990.

The arithmetic is simple: kWh over kW, 13 per cent on top for losses, rounded to the nearest quarter hour. The range column is deliberately cautious, at 3.5 miles per kWh. Columns are the 60.22 and 68.39 kWh packs. Our figures line up with Geely's own 9 hours 45 minutes closely enough to trust the method.
Ten to eleven hours from genuinely empty is a long night, and almost never what actually happens. At 7.4 kW the EX5 gains about 26 miles an hour, so a seven hour window covers a 180 mile day comfortably.
Which length for an EX5
Work from the offside front wing. If the car noses into its space and the charge point is on the right hand side, five metres will very likely reach, which is unusual advice for an SUV of this size.
Ten metres is the choice where you reverse in, where the wall box is on the nearside, or where the parking space is some way from the house. Choose on the real distance from inlet to charge point, not the distance on the drawing, and never buy it tight.
How these cables are built
It is a CE marked IEC 62196-2 cable, IP55 against the weather, rated to work between -30C and +50C.
Three pin construction follows IEC 62752, CE marked, IP67 rated, usable from -30C to +60C. Warranty is two years from the manufacturer, delivery free next working day, returns accepted for 30 days.

Will I get the 11 kW Geely advertises?
Only with a three phase supply. Geely's own press material says so explicitly. On a normal British house the car draws 7.4 kW, which is what a 32A cable delivers.
