Check which side of the 2026 change your car falls on
This is the one Atto 3 fact that will cost you money if you get it wrong. Cars built from 2023 to 2026, with the 60.5 kWh battery and 261 miles of quoted range, have the charge flap on the offside front wing. The 2026 Atto 3 Evo, with a 74.8 kWh pack and 317 miles, moved it to the offside rear quarter panel.
Two independent road tests of the Evo record the move and treat it as a sensible improvement, and one major database has it correctly as a rear socket. Two other data sources still list it as a front socket, and they are simply out of date. If you are buying a cable for an Evo, measure to the back of the car. If you are not certain which you have, open the flap and look.
A published single phase figure, which is rarer than it should be
This is one of the few cars where the single phase rate is published rather than inferred: 7.0 kW, with its own separate charge time. A 32A cable carries 7.4 kW, so the cable has headroom over the car rather than the other way round.
The evidence is a pair of charge times sitting next to each other in the technical data: 602 minutes to full on one phase at 7.0 kW, against 390 minutes on three phases at 11 kW. Sixty and a half kilowatt hours over ten hours works out at six kilowatts average, which is exactly what a 7 kW ceiling looks like once the taper at the top of the pack is included. The numbers hang together, so we can state the home figure rather than estimate it.
One historical note for the used market: the earliest Atto 3 Active, sold from April to August 2023, was 7 kW single phase only with no three phase capability at all. It takes the same cable, so nothing changes for you, but the specification is genuinely different.

The calculation is the battery over the delivered kW, uplifted 13 per cent for charging losses, quarter hour rounded. Miles per hour is worked at a conservative 3.5 miles per kWh. Columns are the 60.5 kWh car and the 74.8 kWh Evo. The home row uses 7.0 kW rather than 7.4 because that is the figure the car declares.
DC charging is where the two generations really part company: 88 kW on the earlier car for a thirty to eighty stop of 29 minutes, against 220 kW on the Evo for ten to eighty in 25. Neither affects which lead you keep at home.
Which length for an Atto 3
The car is 4.46 metres long either way, so the socket position decides everything. A pre-Evo car with a front offside flap and nose-in parking can often manage on five metres. An Evo, with the socket at the rear offside corner, is a ten metre car on most driveways unless you reverse in and the wall box is close to that corner.
Choose on the real distance from inlet to charge point, not the distance on the drawing, and never buy it tight. If you are replacing a cable that came with a previous car, do not assume the length that worked before will work on this one.

Where is the charge port on a BYD Atto 3?
It depends on the year. The 2023 to 2026 car has it on the offside front wing; the 2026 Atto 3 Evo has it on the offside rear quarter panel. Two data sources still list the Evo as a front socket and are out of date.

Did the earliest Atto 3 have a different charger?
Yes. The Active sold between April and August 2023 was 7 kW single phase only, with no three phase capability. It uses the same cable.
