Three generations, one socket position
The 530e has run through the 2017 iPerformance with a 9.2 kWh battery, the 2019 facelift at 12 kWh, and the 2024 G60 with 19.4 kWh usable and 64 miles of WLTP range. Throughout, the charging flap has stayed on the front nearside wing, between the wheel arch and the A-pillar.
The 2024 car takes 11 kW on three phase, which is 7.4 kW at a British house, so the 32A cable earns its place there. We do not have a verified AC figure for the earlier generations, so rather than guess we would say this: check the charging time in your own handbook, and if a full charge is quoted at three hours or more, a 16A cable is all your car can use.
Which length to buy
A front nearside socket is one of the easier positions to live with. Park nose in with the wall box on the house wall and 5 metres reaches with slack. Reverse onto the drive and the lead crosses the length of a five metre saloon, so 10 metres.
Take a tape measure to the run, inlet to charge point, and add a couple of metres before choosing. One thing worth clearing up: BMW's own press material for this car describes the socket as being on the driver's side, because it was written for left hand drive markets. On a UK 530e the front left wing is the passenger side.

The arithmetic is simple: kWh over kW, 13 per cent on top for losses, rounded to the nearest quarter hour. The columns are the three battery sizes in order of age. Treat the first two columns as the arithmetic for a 7.4 kW supply rather than a claim about what those cars accept, since their AC rate is not something we can verify.
How these cables are built
