    The people carrier version of the electric van

    The Combi shares its running gear with the e-NV200 panel van, so the charging story is the same: a five pin Type 1 inlet for AC and a CHAdeMO socket alongside it for rapid charging, both under one flap in the middle of the nose.

    Its cable is therefore a Type 1 to Type 2 lead, which connects the van to the Type 2 charge points used everywhere in Britain. A 16A version is enough for every one of these vans.

    What it draws, and why the year matters

    Vans from 2018 with the 40 kWh battery have a 6.6 kW charger from Visia trim upwards. Early 24 kWh vans came with 3.3 kW as standard and 6.6 kW as an option, so a used one may be either. A 16A cable, at 3.7 kW, covers both cases.

    Hours come from dividing the pack by the power the car actually draws, with 13 per cent added for losses. Usable capacity is 22 kWh on the 24 kWh van and 37 kWh on the 40 kWh version. Range was 106 miles NEDC on the early van, and 124 miles WLTP combined with 187 in town on the later one.

    Which length to buy

    A central nose flap is the easiest arrangement of all for cable length: drive at the charge point and plug in. Five metres is genuinely enough when the van parks facing the unit.

    Ten metres is for the yard rather than the van, where reversing to a bay or parking in a line means the post is not where you left it. Fifteen suits a shared yard.

    How these cables are built

    The cable meets IEC 62196-2, carries the CE mark, is sealed to IP55 and is specified from -30C to +50C.

    On the three pin side the standard is IEC 62752, with CE marking, IP67 sealing and a -30C to +60C range. It carries a two year manufacturer's warranty, ships free on next working day delivery, and can go back inside 30 days. Trade accounts are available for fleets.

    Nissan e-NV200 Combi charging cable questions

    Which cable does an e-NV200 Combi need?

    A Type 1 to Type 2 cable. The van has the older five pin Type 1 inlet and UK charge points are Type 2, so this is the lead that joins them. Sixteen amps covers every version.

    Is it worth paying for a 32A cable?

    No. The most any e-NV200 accepts is 6.6 kW, and a 16A cable carries 3.7 kW, which suits the 3.3 kW vans exactly and is close to the limit on the rest. The van is the constraint, not the lead.

    How long does it take to charge?

    With the 6.6 kW charger, about six and a half hours from empty on the 40 kWh van. An early 24 kWh van at 3.3 kW takes around seven and a half. From a three pin socket, allow overnight and then some.

    Where does it plug in?

    Behind a flap in the centre of the nose, where a grille would normally be. Both the Type 1 and the CHAdeMO sockets sit under it.
