    What the 800 volt system does and does not do

    The GV60 shares its platform with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 and runs at 800 volts, with a charging system designed to work on 400 and 800 volt chargers alike by boosting the lower ones. On a DC rapid that produces a peak in the region of 233 to 240 kW and a ten to eighty per cent stop of about 18 minutes, which is among the quickest anything does.

    On a wall box it makes no difference at all. Unless three phases reach the wall box, and at a house they rarely do, the number that matters is 7.4 kW. So buy the 32A single phase lead, and treat any shorter charge time you see quoted as a workplace figure rather than a domestic one. The technical data confirms the car charges on one phase as well as three, so there is no question about whether it works at home, only about the rate.

    How fast, exactly, is a fair question

    We will be precise about the uncertainty rather than round it away. Genesis's own manual gives the GV60's charger as 10.5 kW without splitting out a single phase figure. For the Electrified G80, the same manual describes an identically specified charger and does give the split: 7 kW on one phase, 10.5 on three. So the GV60's real home figure is most likely 7 kW rather than the 7.4 kW that databases assume by default.

    The practical difference between 7 and 7.4 kW is about forty minutes across a full charge, which is not worth worrying about. What matters is that a 32A single phase cable covers either figure with room to spare, and that any charge time you have read quoting 11 kW assumes three phases.

    The charge flap, and the features around it

    The socket is on the offside rear quarter, behind the rear door. We can be confident about that on a British car because the right hand drive owner's manual's exterior rear view shows the charging door on the vehicle's right, and the manual carries one exterior view shared between both drive configurations.

    Genesis has put more thought into the flap than most: it opens electrically, from inside the car, from outside, or from the smart key, the socket is illuminated, and the assembly is heated so it does not ice up. There is also vehicle-to-load at 3.6 kW, with an external Type 2 adapter and a three pin socket inside the car, though Genesis UK describes this as a Pack rather than as standard equipment.

    Which GV60 you have

    Premium and Sport Plus were the 2022 to 2024 UK trims, both on a 77.4 kWh nameplate pack, quoted at 321 and 289 miles respectively, the Sport Plus producing 483 horsepower with Boost Mode and reaching 62 mph in four seconds. From 2025 the UK car is the 84 kWh Pure at 348 miles. The charger and the connector are the same across all of them.

    Figures are calculated rather than quoted: battery divided by power, 13 per cent for losses, quarter hour rounding. The miles column uses 3.5 miles per kWh, which holds up in winter as well as summer. Columns are the 77.4 kWh cars and the 84 kWh Pure. If the car does in fact cap at 7 kW rather than 7.4, add roughly forty minutes to the top row.

    Thirteen to fourteen hours from empty against eighteen minutes on an ultra rapid is one of the widest gaps in this catalogue, and it tells you exactly what each is for: the rapid handles journeys, the cable handles the other ninety per cent of charging at a quarter of the price.

    Which length for a GV60

    The GV60 is 4.52 metres with the socket at the offside rear. Reversing in with the charge point on your right is the five metre case; anything else and the lead travels the length of the car.

    Ten metres is the sensible default and fifteen covers a detached garage or a charge point at the far end of a drive. Choose on the real distance from inlet to charge point, not the distance on the drawing, and never buy it tight.

    How these cables are built

    Built to IEC 62196-2 and CE marked, with an IP55 rating that covers rain and dust on an exposed driveway, and a working range of -30C to +50C.

    The three pin unit is IEC 62752 compliant, CE marked, IP67 against water and rated -30C to +60C. The manufacturer warrants it for two years, delivery in the UK is free and next working day, and returns run to 30 days.

    What cable does a GV60 need?

    A 32A single phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable, on Premium, Sport Plus and the later 84 kWh Pure alike.

    Will the GV60 charge at 11 kW at home?

    No. That figure needs three phases. On a British single phase supply expect around 7 to 7.4 kW, which is what a 32A cable delivers.

    Does 800 volts help at home?

    Not at all. It is what makes an 18 minute ten to eighty per cent stop possible on a DC rapid charger. On alternating current the onboard charger sets the pace.

    Where is the charge flap?
