Find out which charger your car has before you order
This is the one thing worth five minutes of your time on a DS 7. Two different single phase chargers were fitted, 3.7 kW and 7.4 kW, and the difference is a full charge in three hours forty-five minutes against one hour fifty-five. The RAC put it plainly when it tested the car: the 4x4 models manage the faster figure while the E-Tense 225 can only charge at up to 3.7 kW and needs almost twice as long.
Worse, which one is standard changed. DS UK's March 2023 price guide lists 7.4 kW as standard on the E-Tense 4x4 300 and 4x4 360 and 3.7 kW on the 225. The July 2024 guide lists 3.7 kW as standard on every E-Tense, with the 7.4 kW unit as a 400 pound option under code LZ02. Both are official DS documents. So a 2024 4x4 cannot be assumed to have the faster charger, and a 2023 one cannot be assumed to lack it.
Practically: if you know your car takes 7.4 kW, buy the 32A cable. If it is a 225, or you are not sure, the 16A cable carries 3.6 kW and covers a 3.7 kW car completely. A heavier lead makes no difference, because nothing downstream of the onboard charger sets the pace.
No rapid charging, on any of them
There is no rapid charging on this one, and no socket that could offer it. Every kilowatt hour it ever receives comes down the Type 2 cable, so the lead is a functional part of the car rather than something kept in the boot for emergencies.
That applies to the 13.2 kWh car of 2019 to 2022 and to the 14.2 kWh facelift alike. It is a fact worth knowing before a long journey rather than during one.
The two batteries
Early cars carry 13.2 kWh gross with 11.5 kWh usable, quoted at 31 miles of electric range on the 4x4 300 and 34 on the 225. The 2022 facelift moved to 14.2 kWh gross and 12.9 kWh usable, and DS's 2023 guide quotes 35 to 43 miles for the 225, 38 to 42 for the 4x4 300 and 36 for the 4x4 360. The 2024 guide revised the 225 down to 32 to 37 miles.
These are small packs by electric car standards, which is why the charger question matters so much: on a 3.7 kW car the whole battery fills in an evening anyway, and the faster charger buys convenience rather than capability.

The calculation is the battery over the delivered kW, uplifted 13 per cent for charging losses, quarter hour rounded. Range added per hour assumes a year round 3.5 miles per kWh rather than a best case figure. Columns are the two batteries at 11.5 and 12.9 kWh usable. Read the row that matches your charger rather than the faster one.
DS quotes about six and a half hours from a 2.3 kW domestic socket for the facelift, which is a genuine overnight option on a pack this size and a reasonable fallback away from home.
Which length for a DS 7
The owner's handbook states it directly: the charging flap is on the rear left-hand side of the vehicle, with the fuel filler opposite. On a UK car that is the nearside rear, which is the kerb side.
The DS 7 is 4.59 metres, so with a rear socket we would call ten metres the default and five metres the choice only where the car reverses in beside its charge point. Choose on the real distance from inlet to charge point, not the distance on the drawing, and never buy it tight.

Does my DS 7 have the 3.7 kW or the 7.4 kW charger?
It depends on the version and the year. DS's March 2023 guide gives 7.4 kW as standard on the 4x4 300 and 4x4 360 and 3.7 kW on the 225; the July 2024 guide makes 3.7 kW standard across the range with 7.4 kW a paid option. A dealer can confirm it from your registration.
Which cable should I buy if I am not sure?
The 16A version carries 3.6 kW and covers a 3.7 kW car completely. If you confirm the car has the 7.4 kW charger, the 32A cable roughly halves the charge time.
Can a DS 7 E-Tense rapid charge?
No. No DS 7 plug-in hybrid has a DC socket of any kind, so the Type 2 lead is the only way to put electricity in.
How far does it go on electricity?
Between 31 and 43 miles depending on version and model year. The early 13.2 kWh cars are at the bottom of that range and the 14.2 kWh facelift at the top.
