The cheap fix for a messy boot

Not everyone wants to think hard about cable storage. This is the entry point: a hardback zipped bag, handles, waterproof outer, holds a ten metre lead, done. It costs less than a tank of screenwash and stops the single most common complaint new EV owners have about their car.

What you get for the money

A zipped opening rather than a drawstring, so grit stays out. A hardback panel that stops the bag folding in half when the boot is loaded. A lining that resists dust and the corrosion that comes with damp. Handles that let you lift it out with the shopping still in place.

    When to spend more

Step up to the hard shell case if the boot carries heavy kit, or to the large bag if the lead is fifteen metres or longer. If the cable lives in a garage rather than the car, the wall bracket is the better answer and costs less again.

    Storage bag questions

    What does hardback mean here?

A stiffened panel in the base and back, so the bag keeps its shape rather than collapsing when something is set on top. It is not a rigid case, and the hard shell carry case is the option to take if you want that.

Will it take a 10m cable?

Yes, coiled in loose loops. Longer leads need the large bag, which is cut for 15m.

Is it worth it at this price?

It replaces a grey tide mark on your boot carpet, so most owners think so. There is no clever engineering in a cable bag: it needs to zip, keep water off the carpet and not fall apart, and this does those three things.

Can I use it for other things?

Plenty of people use them for jump leads, tow ropes and wet walking boots. Anything you would rather not have loose in the boot.
