Cars ordered between March 2018 and July 2020 had a 7 kW single phase charger and nothing else; there was no three phase option alongside it. From model year 2021 Jaguar fitted an 11 kW three phase unit as standard equipment, not as an upgrade.

Here is why that matters less than it sounds. Jaguar published both cases itself: customers in single phase markets using 7 kW wall boxes get about 22 miles of charge per hour with a full charge taking 12.75 hours, while three phases bring that down to 8.6 hours. Ninety kilowatt hours over 12.75 hours is 7.06 kW; over 8.6 hours it is 10.5 kW. Britain wires houses on one phase. So every I-Pace of every model year charges at about 7 kW on a driveway, and the 11 kW unit buys a normal home nothing at all.

The ceiling is the car, so a heavier cable finishes at the same time. Which makes the cable decision simple: a 32A single phase lead, on any I-Pace ever sold.

The socket is at the front, which helps

The charging inlet is on the nearside front flank, behind the front wheel and ahead of the passenger door. That is confirmed by a UK source describing a UK car rather than translated from European data.

On a 4.68 metre car that is worth real money in cable terms. If you drive nose in with the wall box on your left, the socket ends up within a couple of metres of it. A vehicle this size with a rear quarter socket would be a ten metre proposition on the same driveway.

Battery, range and rapid charging

The pack is 90 kWh gross with about 84.7 kWh usable, and Jaguar quotes 292 miles WLTP, with an independent real world estimate of around 235 miles. DC charging peaks at 104 kW and averages 83 kW across ten to eighty per cent. Jaguar frames the rapid case usefully: a 50 kW charger adds up to 39 miles in fifteen minutes and a 100 kW charger up to 78 miles in the same time.

The gap between those figures and the home case is what the cable is for. Rapid charging handles journeys a few times a year; the Type 2 lead handles the other ninety per cent, overnight, at a fraction of the cost per mile.

How long a full charge takes

Cable

Power drawn at home

Empty to full, 84.7 kWh battery

Range added per hour

Type 2, 32A single phase at home

7.0 kW

13 hours 45 mins

about 24 miles

Type 2, three phase at 11 kW

11.0 kW

8 hours 45 mins

about 38 miles

Type 2, 16A

3.6 kW

26 hours 30 mins

about 13 miles

Type 2 to 3 Pin from a socket

2.3 kW

41 hours 30 mins

about 8 miles

The arithmetic is simple: kWh over kW, 13 per cent on top for losses, rounded to the nearest quarter hour.
