Both take AC on either side, and only one carries the DC pins. Porsche GB puts the DC side as the passenger side, which on a right hand drive car is the nearside.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThat changes the cable you buy rather than being a curiosity: one inlet always faces your charge point, so five metres frequently does a job that would need ten on a single port car. A couple of sources place the Taycan DC port on the offside instead, most likely reproducing left hand drive data, so the model page says to check your own car.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eWhat a British supply actually delivers\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eThere is a single ceiling here and it belongs to your electricity supply, not to the car. Thirty two amps on one phase is about 7.4 kW. A car rated at 11 or 22 kW meets that ceiling and stops; a car rated at 3.6 kW never reaches it.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eThe differences that change your order\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003ePorsche fitted three different chargers across these cars, and the phase count matters far more than the kilowatt figure. The 3.6 and 7.2 kW units are single phase, so a British house hands over their full rating. The 11 kW unit of 2024 is three phase and gives about 7.4 kW here, so that upgrade bought British owners almost nothing at home.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe best evidence is Porsche's own 2024 Panamera data sheet, which prints two charge times: 2 hours 39 minutes at 11 kW three phase, and 3 hours 15 minutes at 9.6 kW single phase. Published single phase rows are rare and very useful.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAn optional 22 kW charger appears on the Taycan and Macan. It needs three phases at 32 amps each, so it changes nothing on a driveway. Buy it for a destination post or not at all.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe 918 Spyder is the outlier: one 16 amp circuit and a 3.6 kW ceiling on an 887 horsepower car, so a 16 amp lead already carries everything the car will accept. Neither it nor the Cayenne and Panamera E-Hybrids has a DC socket at all.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003c!-- split --\u003e\u003ch2\u003eGetting the length right\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe only reliable way is to measure it. Where the charge point is, where the flap ends up, and the path between them, then pick the next size up.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe two-port cars need less cable than their size suggests. The Cayenne and Panamera charge from the nearside rear, fixed by part number rather than by market, so it does not mirror for right hand drive.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eBuild quality, warranty and delivery\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe cables themselves do not vary by car. Porsche states a \"maximum charge output of 3.6 kW\", delivered through a single 16 amp circuit, on a 6.8 kWh battery. That is roughly two hours to fill it and about eighteen miles of electric running when you have.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eCharging hardware of this vintage is small, and the number that matters is the car's, not the supply's. Fitting a 32 amp wall box changes nothing here because the car will not draw 32 amps. Plan around the car's ceiling rather than the charge point's. Buying a 32 amp cable for this car is not wasted money, because the cable is rated for whatever you plug it into next and because thicker conductors run cooler, but it will not make the 918 charge faster.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch2\u003eThere is no CCS socket on it\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThere is no rapid charging on this one, and no socket that could offer it. The miles column uses 3.5 miles per kWh, which holds up in winter as well as summer. Porsche publishes gross capacity only; no usable figure was ever released, so this works from 6.8 kWh.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe 918 predates WLTP entirely, so the roughly eighteen mile electric range figure comes from the NEDC era and should be read as optimistic. In town on a light throttle it is a real number; anywhere else the 4.6 litre V8 takes over long before the battery empties.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch2\u003eWhere the socket is, with one honest caveat\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003ePorsche describes the charge port as being in the B pillar on the front passenger side, which on a left hand drive car puts it on the right. Its own rescue data sheet uses absolute terms and says the rear right of the vehicle. Whether the port mirrors on a right hand drive car we have not been able to confirm with a photograph, so treat the offside as likely rather than certain and check your own car before choosing a length.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe 918 is 4.64 metres and low, and access is behind the door rather than at either end. Five metres reaches comfortably where the charge point is beside the car; ten if it is not.
