Those are single phase numbers, so a British house delivers them in full rather than shaving a third off, which is the more common story on this site. It is worth resisting the instinct that bigger is better. A single phase charger is fully used on a British supply, which is not true of the three phase alternative.

Port position is the detail that catches people out here, because it is not uniform across the range. Every model page states it. One model charges from the front nearside, one puts its Type 2 socket on the rear OFFSIDE with the rapid socket on the nearside, and for the third Lexus does not publish which flank at all. That last one we state as unpublished rather than inferring it, because a guess here costs the customer a cable.

The NX 450h+ is a plug-in hybrid and the UX 300e and RZ are battery electrics, so the size of the job differs enormously between them even though the charging rate barely does.

Getting the length right

Length is decided by your driveway and by which end of the car the socket is on. A car quoted at 11 kW or 22 kW is quoting a three phase figure, and a single phase British house will give it 7.4 kW. The NX 450h+ sidesteps all of that: 6.6 kW is a single phase figure, so a British house delivers the car's full rated speed with nothing lost to the supply. Lexus quotes as little as two and a half hours from a wall box, and that is a real figure rather than a three phase one.

A 32A cable is therefore worth having here, because the car genuinely draws 6.6 kW and a 16A lead would cut that to 3.7 and roughly double the time.

How long a full charge takes

Cable

Power drawn at home

Empty to full, 18.1 kWh battery

Range added per hour

Type 2 to Type 2, 32A at 6.6 kW

6.6 kW

3 hours

about 23 miles

Type 2 to Type 2, 16A at 3.7 kW

3.7 kW

5 hours 30 mins

about 13 miles

Three pin from a 13A socket

2.3 kW

9 hours

about 8 miles

Hours come from dividing the pack by the power the car actually draws, with 13 per cent added for losses.
