The Avenger is sold as a battery electric, as a 4xe, as an e-Hybrid and as a petrol car, and only the first two of those plug in. The giveaway is the charging rows of a specification table: a dash or the words self charging means there is nothing to connect a lead to.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIf the badge does not say 4xe or electric, nothing on this page will fit, and no adaptor changes that.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eWhere the {M} range divides\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eBritish homes run one phase, so the useful number is what the car takes from it rather than its rated maximum.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eVery little separates the three. The Avenger, Compass and Renegade 4xe all reach 7.4 kW at a British house, and a 32 amp lead meets it exactly, and all three charge from the nearside rear flank, one of them behind a push-open cover. For a brand this varied on the petrol side, the plug-in cars are unusually consistent.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eWhat does differ is battery size, which changes how long a charge takes rather than how fast it goes in. The 4xe plug-in hybrids fill in an evening; the battery electric Avenger is an overnight job.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003c!-- split --\u003e\u003ch2\u003eWorking out the length\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eWork out the run, not the car. A socket on the far flank from your charge point adds the width of the vehicle to the distance, and a socket at the opposite end adds its length. The model pages give both so you can measure once and order once.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eA nearside rear socket is the kerb side at the back, so reversing onto a drive brings the flap closest to a wall box on the house wall. Jeep uses 4xe for its plug-in hybrids on the Renegade and Compass, but the Avenger 4xe is not a plug-in hybrid at all. It is a 48 volt hybrid with all wheel drive, a 136 horsepower petrol engine and two small electric motors, and it has no charging socket of any kind. Nor do the Avenger petrol or the Avenger e-Hybrid.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eOnly the Avenger Full-Electric takes a cable. That is one model out of four wearing the same nameplate, which is an unusually good way to buy the wrong thing.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch2\u003eWhat the electric one does\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eCitroen fits a 7.4 kW single phase charger as standard and sells an 11 kW three phase unit as an option. The option is for markets where three phases arrive at the building; at a British house it gives the same 7.4 kW the standard charger already does.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe official handbook is unusually clear about it: the onboard charger is available with 7.4 kW single phase and 11 kW three phase depending on version and market, and it publishes all three times - about sixteen hours at 3.7 kW, about eight hours at 7.4 kW, and about six hours at 11 kW. On a British house the answer is the 7.4 kW row whichever unit is fitted, so a 32A single phase cable is the correct buy on any Avenger Electric. The car is the bottleneck, not the cable, so the extra current goes unused.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eDC charging is 100 kW, with about 24 minutes from twenty to eighty per cent per the handbook, so long journeys are covered by the rapid network rather than by this lead.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch2\u003eBattery and range, with both figures published\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eJeep is one of the few manufacturers to print gross and net side by side in the handbook's technical specifications: 54 kWh gross and 51 kWh net, on a fluid cooled and heated lithium ion pack at 350 volts. WLTP range is up to 248 miles, and the current Jeep UK page quotes 248 to 241 miles depending on specification.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThat candour is worth noting because it is rare. Our top row is close to Jeep's own eight hour claim at 7.4 kW.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eEight hours from empty fits inside a single overnight window with room to spare. At 7.4 kW the Avenger gains about 26 miles an hour, which for a car of this size is most of a working week's commuting in one night.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch2\u003eWhich length for an Avenger\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe socket is on the nearside rear flank, confirmed for a UK car. The Avenger is 4.08 metres long, which is short enough that a rear socket is not a serious problem.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eFive metres works where you reverse in or where the charge point sits toward the rear of the bay on the nearside. \u003ca href=\"\/products\/10m-ev-charging-cables\"\u003eTen metres\u003c\/a\u003e is the safe general choice for a car that sometimes parks nose in.
