The DS 7 Crossback plug-in hybrid spans 3.7 and 7.4 kW depending on how it left the factory, which is the Stellantis pattern of a smaller charger as standard and a larger one as a paid option.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIf your DS 7 charges from empty on a 7 kW point in roughly two hours it has the larger charger; roughly four means the smaller. Launch cars had a 7.4 kW single phase unit as standard with an 11 kW three phase one optional; by 2022 the 11 kW unit had become standard, and the facelift has it as standard with V2L. None of that changes which cable you buy, because on one phase all of them deliver the same 7.4 kW.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch2\u003eDS puts both numbers in print, which settles it\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eAs standard the car takes 7.4 kW from one phase. An 11 kW three phase charger is available as a paid extra and makes no difference whatever at a normal house, because it needs a supply a house does not have.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe 54 kWh price and specification guide is unusually candid: it lists a full charge as five hours on an 11 kW three phase home unit and seven hours thirty minutes on 7.4 kW. Those are two rows for the same car, and the second one is the one that describes a British driveway. Anybody quoting the five hour figure to you is quoting a supply almost no house has.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe extra amps would simply sit unused, so there is nothing to gain from a bigger cable. What it handles is the seven hours a night that cost a fraction as much per mile.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch2\u003eWhich length for a DS 3\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eYou will find the socket on the nearside rear wing, exactly where you would look for a petrol cap. It is the pavement side of the car, which helps at a kerbside charge point and means the cable run depends on which way round you park.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eAt 4.12 metres the DS 3 Crossback is short, so even a rear socket is not far from a wall box. Two different single phase chargers were fitted, 3.7 kW and 7.4 kW, and the difference is a full charge in three hours forty-five minutes against one hour fifty-five. The RAC put it plainly when it tested the car: the 4x4 models manage the faster figure while the E-Tense 225 can only charge at up to 3.7 kW and needs almost twice as long.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eWorse, which one is standard changed. DS UK's March 2023 price guide lists 7.4 kW as standard on the E-Tense 4x4 300 and 4x4 360 and 3.7 kW on the 225. The July 2024 guide lists 3.7 kW as standard on every E-Tense, with the 7.4 kW unit as a 400 pound option under code LZ02. Both are official DS documents. So a 2024 4x4 cannot be assumed to have the faster charger, and a 2023 one cannot be assumed to lack it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003ePractically: if you know your car takes 7.4 kW, buy the 32A cable. If it is a 225, or you are not sure, the 16A cable carries 3.6 kW and covers a 3.7 kW car completely. A heavier lead makes no difference, because nothing downstream of the onboard charger sets the pace.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch2\u003eNo rapid charging, on any of them\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThere is no rapid charging on this one, and no socket that could offer it.
